Steve Gibson on VoIP and Sony DRM Rootkit
Steve Gibson is simultaneously a legendary programmer and expert on computer security. If an application doesn’t exist, or if the existing applications don’t do what he needs, Steve simply creates something better. His latest challenge is getting broadcast quality audio from a VoIP call. Chris talks to Steve about this dream VoIP client, which will be free to all Windows uses as soon as it passes through some rigourous beta testing. The conversation gradually shifts to Sony/BMG and the rootkit situation widely publicized by Sysinternals. Steve’s got some ideas about how to deal with the potential frustrations caused by music CDs that install a backdoor on your system as well as a wealth of knowledge about security in general.
