Star Dot What

To settle all arguments, Lockergnome was started in 1996. Before then, I created 16-color icons for Windows. The Lockergnome logo was based on a cursor I made for Gretchen (back in the days of Windows 3.11 – when we used Plugin from Plannet Crafters as the shell). In fact, Lockergnome started out as Star Dot Star – but that dot-com was already taken. Dashes were (and still are) out of the question. Wanna know what I wrote about in my first issue? No, you don't. Trust me. Back in September 1996, I was more stupider than me are now. *diddly-do diddly-do diddly-do*

TopDesk is a small utility that adds an icon to your descktop task bar tray area that gives you access to everything on your desktop, although your icons might be covered with bunches of windows. A great selection of icons for Win95 (with 256 color icon enabler). Happy Icons comes
with a mixture of 16 and 256 colored icons. Comb through the subdirectories
of icons and see which ones you'd like to keep. There are a lot, but it won't take you more than a few minutes to check out. VGB LaunchPad 95 – now you can play Gameboy games on your PC (well, you could have for a while now) but this is a Win95 shell to help configure your settings for those games.

Dogz unzips to take up about 6 meg on your hard drive, but well worth every single byte. I'm serious. This program is just the coolest and cutest thing you'll ever own on your computer! DerekWare HTML Author – if you're looking for a good non-WYSIWYG editor, this is the one to get. Especially if you aren't much for Netscape. It supports MSIE tags and is currently in beta. I believe that it is the best HTML editor out there right now. The Daily WAV – get a new .wav file every day! In fact, he usually posts more than one on weekends. Perfect way to fill up your hard drive with sound bytes. Man, I gotta get me a Wavetable card.

I'll tell you that this is just the first in a series of e-mails which will show you where to find the best of the best software (free or shareware) on the Net, and perhaps in the store. It is small because the amount of people on the list is small as well. Not to mention, this is only coming from my perspective on a Saturday morning. If you recently downloaded a kick-byte app, tell me about it so others can know! “Thank you for your support.” (to quote Bartles & James)

I had the icons! I had the icons! *high five to all* You know, I burned all of my downloads to CD to get them off of the hard drive … and I still have my earliest CDs I think, so I just might still have them around! I think I should bring them back to life, don't you? It's about time I had some Gnome icons again! I don't think I was a reader until 1997 or later though… sorry. I am now though, and that's what matters.
