SpongeBob Squarepants
I just don't get it; I don't understand why Spongebob Squarepants is a runaway hit. What's more, how did the cartoon become so popular with adults?! I can't see the allure of Spongebob. He has square pants, I understand – but he's nothing more than a sponge… named Bob?
SpongeBob is a sea sponge who lives with his pet snail, Gary, in a fully furnished, two bedroom…pineapple, and has an unusual love for his job as a fry cook at the Krusty Krab. SpongeBob is as optimistic, earnest, and well-meaning as a sea-dwelling sponge gets, but despite his best intentions, he can't seem to avoid creating problems for himself–and usually everyone else around him, too. While trying too hard, he tends to do things wrong–really wrong–which often spells disaster. But SpongeBob can't help looking on the bright side of life, and his positive outlook and enthusiasm about just about everything make him downright irresistible.
…and?! It's not like he can shoot laser beams out of his butt. Or, can he?

I don't know either Chris. Friends of mine who have kids (and know about my weird sense of humor) have recommended this show to me TOO MANY TIMES always saying they know I'd love it.
I have since coined the phrase “900 channels and there's nothing on, I guess I'll watch some SpongeBob.”

Chris: As someone (Roger Ebert?) said, watching Spongebob is like getting a contact high from a college dorm room. You see lots of inexplicable, imaginative, and goofy crap, and you laugh at it. Even when you'd rather not.
Which makes it the laid-back, Dazed and Confused cousin of the full-on Timothy Leary acid trip that is Aqua Teen Hungerforce.

That's not a snail…. it's a cat…. it just looks like a snail….
Chris…. The first sign of your love for Sponge Bob is denial….Then you'll eventually start singing the song…. and then once you start referring to hamburgers as “crabby patties” then you'll know your a full blown Sponge Bob fan…. it's cool man… let yourself go… don't try and resist….

I never watched it, but I attempted it several times..
I don't know, doesn't make me laugh. I have to admit he is quite cool looking, and some of the jokes are funny, but he isn't “ROFL” funny.
You wanna see funny? The Simpsons ;-)

know what you mean Chris, I tryed to sit through 1 episode of it. I didn't last 5mins. I don't understand how people can think he's funny. So what, he's got a snail that meows, so what that he lives in a pineapple, HE'S A DAMN MORON! Nothing is funny on that show, and I really can't see how the hell adults can like that crap. I know some of my friends love spongebob, and I just slap them, and then they start telling me about some episode so I slap them again. Then they move on to Aqua Teen Hunger Force, so I either walk away, or punch them.

Perhaps you are missing the satire here. It’s like an extended ‘Dr. Strangelove’: it’s hilarious.
Yes, they live in a pineapple under the sea. But talking sponges? Money grubbing crabs? Slacker squids? How could this happen? Must be some strange mutations?
Remember where that pineapple is: Bikini Bottom!!! You know, at the bottom of the Bikini Atolls (see the Dr. Strangelove reference above). ItÂ’s so bad there that even the mammals live under the surface.
If it wasnÂ’t so funny, it would be sad!

I don't get it. Annoying show with an annoying cast of characters with annoying voices. But, its nice to know that I'm not alone in my hatred of the show.
