E-Mail:

Smartphones are Smart

This week, Tyler tells us about his Smartphone adventures:

The search for the right Smartphone is a very tough one. It is kind of like trying to find a girlfriend. I mean you spend a lot of time with a Smartphone, just like a girl. So either should fit certain criteria to be considered right for you. Smartphones are also a pretty big investment.

Smartphones are meant for different purposes and needs. In this article, I will explain to you my needs and how each phone I have tried has addressed them.

First, lets make sure we are on the same page here. Smartphones are PDA / Phone combos. Kind of like a Blackberry, but in my opinion more powerful. For my use as a 20 year old, I want to read and reply to e-mail, surf the web and have some remote access capabilities (SSH, VNC). The blackberry does not appeal to me. Please dont send me nasty e-mail but Blackberry seems like something for a suit, not a power geek like me.

Smartphones in general run applications for the phones specific operation system, PIM software, and allow for some basic Internet functions. A Smartphone should allow you to get your e-mail on the go, and do some moderate web surfing out of the box. With add-ons like Telnet, SSH, VNC. All of those things can be done from your mobile, which is really cool and makes life so much easier.

Tyler has more on smartphones here.
