Sith Happens

I felt a great disturbance in the Force… as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened. What?
Revenge of the Sith.
The first time I heard that Lucas was doing the prequels, I was beside myself with joy. The first time I heard “Duel of the Fates,” I was disappointed but hopeful. The first time I saw “The Phantom Menace,” I was exhilarated but largely unsatisfied. The second time I saw “The Phantom Menace,” I started to wonder what Lucas was smoking. The third time I saw “The Phantom Menace,” I didn't - because I haven't watched it all the way through more than twice. The first time I saw “Attack of the Clones,” I was giddy but confused. The second time I saw “Attack of the Clones,” I started to question my own faith (and found the lack of it disturbing).
Episodes I & II were replete with oversights, mistakes, and generally shoddy elements (save the special effects). Close friends are disillusioned with this new Star Wars franchise beyond the point of no return. I want to love Star Wars, and I want to believe that it's still as wonderful as it once was. Unfortunately, Lucas hasn't made this easy. I'm not a Star Wars apologist, but… I can't really consider myself a fan anymore.
When I heard that there was a Darth Tater, I laughed… and the more I thought about it, I cried. Merchandising has gotten waaaaaaaaaay out of hand. The article “Despite hype, upcoming 'Star Wars' bound to blow” is pretty much spot-on. Instead of lampooning the fans, pop culture is lambasting Lucas (and rightfully so). I'd have to be stupid to swallow this for the third time, no matter how much I want to think III is going to eliminate the pains of I & II. There may be, however, a new hope:
ROTS is PG-13.
Thank the maker.

Matthew Stover the author of book version of Episode III will be in the Barnes and Nobel in U. Village on April 27th at 7:30 signing copies and doing a Q&A. Stop by and share your feelings with someone who has recently worked with Lucas.

Chris,
I sincerely think that Lucas has the right to do whatever he so chooses regarding Marketing. If you think about it, he was the smart one to maintain those rights to himself (instead of giving that up to the big corporations like most flick makers back then). So, he is going to explore and exploit and I believe he has the absolute right to do that.
Seems to me that you follow those same footsteps with Lockergnome. I mean, here I am at your blog, but Lockergnome is everywhere and so are advertisements! So you are also exploring and exploiting. I bet you would do the same if you were in his shoes right now.
For what its worth..

Yeah Chris, I bet you would have a Pirillo Potato if ya could….

Chris,
I found and read the script for Episode III last night, and it actually reads like it will be a good movie. If you have the time, look it up and browse over it. Yeah, there seems to be some of the kack that Lucas started with R.O.T.J. and continued through the past two episodes, but the darkness of Annikin becoming Vader makes for a great story. Oh well, we'll have to wait till May 19th to find out I guess……

Have you seen The spoof?
Its awesome quality for a fan flick. Very funny, you should watch

I was 8 yrs old when Star Wars was released. I imagine you were about the same. When you are that young, you are very impressionable. We got Star Wars embedded in our souls. Trying to live up to that, is an impossible task. But one that I appreciate. Thanks Lucas.
