Second Place in the Super Bowl

I'm proud of my city today. We made it all the way to the Super Bowl this year (for the first time ever) – and while we didn't walk away the victor, we took it in stride. I don't know if the media did this on purpose, but most coverage showed humble Seattlites with a good attitude. We're hopeful for next year, I guess – but second place isn't all that bad. I've never identified myself with a sports team, but the reaction to last night's defeat may have made me a small fan. The “attitude” in the Pacific Northwest is one of the reasons I was drawn to the region. I'd still like to go on record by stating that the refs were paid under the table for the bogus calls they were making (largely against the Seahawks, or in support of the Steelers). Even today's ESPN poll asks: “Do you think officiating mistakes affected the outcome of Super Bowl XL?” Right now, the only two states that disagree with that are Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Kinda telling, eh? Even though the Seattle Seahawks got screwed by the black & white, I've yet to see any local evidence of sore losing. I'm almost glad we lost – gives us something to shoot for next year.
