Seattle Home Contractors

We need assistance with the following services, and it seems we’ve been too busy to pare down the list of possible local (Seattle) contractors.

So long as you’re licensed and bonded, you stand a good chance of scoring our business if you’re one of the first contractors to respond to our list of needs - especially if you’re willing to have your services recorded in video, to be broadcast live as a demonstration of what you’re doing. Think of it as a new form of free advertising that beats the hell out of traditional advertising.

I’m using that premise as a starting point for negotiation of rates.

Here’s what we’re needing from Seattle-area contractors:

  • Basic electrical work in the master bathroom, installation of fans
  • Roofing, as some of our tiles seem to have not been nailed down very well
  • Custom clothesline in the laundry room (per Ponzi’s spec)
  • Powerwashing the deck and porch this summer
  • Sealing / resealing / treating outdoor wood this summer
  • Carpentry work in our den, making screens for our shelving units

And, even if nobody is out there - then at least I know what work lies ahead for us (personally).

Chris,

I’ve heard good things about York Enterprises of Tacoma. I’m currently taking a bid from them for an expansion of my garage. They specialize in ‘green’ remodeling and custom interior work. Apparently they’ve won quite a few awards for their work too. One of the cooler projects I’ve seen from the company in the trade magazines is a ‘hidden’ bed that slides horizontally into a wooden cabinet - saving a ton of room. Pretty trick.

Coming from a family of contractors and maintenance-types, I would find a bonded handy-man for these small jobs if at all possible. Actually as I read through the list again, the whole thing seems like it would be a better fit for a handyman. Contractors are generally seeking large jobs that will sustain for a period of time. Putting on a new roof, building a deck, adding another room to a house, painting the entire house, etc.

If you are looking for something reliable, licensed and bonded, but would rather not get reamed by a contractor’s (because being licensed means squat, I can get a license) inexperience or poor work ethic, consider these guys:

Just type in your zip, they have people there.

They can do anything you need and you will not be blown down into a lot of unneeded hassles. Generally speaking, you will have a *lot less* hit and miss with these guys than if you try to play contractor **** shoot.

cr@p shoot was blocked? Wow, WP is touchy…lol ;)

I’m looking for a good contractor in the Seattle area as well. I wish you luck in your search, and keep us updated.

I agree, you’re looking for a handy-type rather than a contractor per se. We have had great luck finding skilled help for all kinds of projects through Angie’s List, http://www.angieslist.com. There’s a membership fee to join, but you get access to an amazing local database complete with customer ratings.
