I liked the intro of a portable version, and I also noticed that they just went the shareware route. It's an excellent, small program, but a capture program that cannot capture menus and their drop-downs is not worth paying real money for. If FS Capture ever adds that functionality, then I might be interested in upgrading.

I’ve been using FastStone Capture for about a year. One of the best features is that when you grab part of the screen such as a procedure from a web page or help file it stays on top so that you can use it as a reference. You then have a choice rather you want to copy to the clip board save it, print, or discard.
small great proggie !

The best program I have ever used for screen shots is 5 clicks by interapple.<br

I need a screen capture utility to create professional high quality images that I've used in published and non published material.
For me the issue is - go with a lower priced product, and have to perform a bunch of workarounds to get what I want, or buy SnagIt - just under $40 on their website and I know it will do everything that I want and need it to do.
Any of the following inputs can be used:
Region, Window, Full Screen, Scrolling window or Web page that keeps the links.
SnagIt has 11 outputs including some of the following:
Printer, Clipboard, File, E-mail, Catalog and Instant Messenger to name a few.
If File is selected as an output, there are 11 file formats the file can be saved to including:
JPG, PNG, SWF and PDF to name a few.
AND there are effects included as well as a image editor.
You can create profiles - this type of input, to this type of output.
If you need a very versatile screen capture program, with a high level of functionality, I wouldn't hesistate to recommend SnagIt.

I see suggestions for other print screen utilities, that I will at least try, but I don’t think they will beat SnagIt.<br

http://www.faststone.org/FSCaptureDetail.htm
It has a lot of the functionality like SnagIt but at half the price.
Personally I find SnagIt overpriced, but that's just my opinion.
Capture was freeware until recently, but then again so was WindowsClippings.
Both have gone the shareware route.
It will be interesting to see if a lot of people are turned off
by that move.

My favorite is Capture from FastStone<br

I un-installed so I could go back to my favourite Gadwin PrintScreen which I've been using it for about 6 months. The latest free version is 4.1. You can select a hot and save in any one of 4 formats. You can capture a full screen or a portion of a screen which provides a magnified window for precision capturing. Their Pro version is 4.2 is not free but it is loaded with features.

I tried WindowClippings and wasn’t impressed.<br
