There's a new wireless access point in my home; the
Netline
Wireless Broadband Gateway went from box to
broadcast in less than three minutes. I swapped out the Linksys
and my systems were none the wiser after a quick network renewal.
While I haven't spent too much time with this device, I can tell
you that it works as advertised. I slipped a Wi-Fi card into my
laptop and Zero was instantly connected. However, the router's
Web-based configuration tool's UI leaves much to be desired. It's
almost worse [gasp] than Lotus Notes. A quick flash could fix
that, but I don't know where it stands on Proxim's priority list.
For now, I'll take functionality over form (as I don't plan on
tweaking the settings too often). It's also important to note that
we're working with Proxim to provide wireless connectivity for
everyone at Gnomedex. The
access will be free - as long as you bring your own card. You will
also be able to rent one at the event.
ieSpell has its own
domain. Hopefully, the errors will
remain at bay long enough for you to download this free browser
add-on. Hey, check out Lockergnome's new '404' while you're at it.
Just go to a page on Lockergnome.com that
doesn't exist. Well, I thought it was funny at the time. I'm still
waiting for someone to e-mail me with a complaint along the lines
of: “Your Web site gave me a blue screen of death.” Don't you hate
when things just up and die? We killed a couple of our e-mail
aliases today, too (rantrave, help, and suggest). They were
attracting too many junk e-mails and viruses. The
submission form
is still alive, though (as is the 'feedback' mailbox). And you
know what else is breathing?
The GnomeSTORE! That's
right, it relaunched quietly the other day. Within minutes, t-shirts
and mugs were flying off the virtual shelves (and yes,
we're using the same quality components as before). You might
wanna check out the “Care Package” we've put together (also known
as the GnomeBUNDLE). The temporarily slashed price is pretty darn
good - and you get an awful lot in return. In fact, if you order
one of these “Care Packages” before Monday, I'll throw in any
currently-listed GnomeTome for free (if you
want one, let me know). I'm doing this without Jake's permission,
so I hope he doesn't get mad at me when he reads this. I just
tried calling him, but he's not answering the phone. Then again,
it's 2AM in Iowa at the present moment. We have individual items
available, too (mouse pads, sweatshirts, travel mugs, etc.). Take
your pick. Got any geeks on your gift list? Searching for
yourself? Our items have been certified as nifty, spiffy, and
somewhat practical. C'mon… you know this logo was made for
wearing. Our wonderful model (Gretchen) had a difficult time
choosing her favorite item.

Ah, well, since you took the easy route for set-up, think I will come over and hook up to your WiFi instead of mine.
As “minimum” security you should at least add the MAC addresses of your cards (and devices) so that no one else can piggyback in …

Yeah, nice try … but the other night the fake BSOD didn't fool me at all! Oh, except for confusing me since I was positive I was going to the right address. However, it did give me a *really* good laugh, and isn't that what matters?
Wow, I want to order a Gnome Ball … but I want an autographed on - since you ate the other ones. :P
WiFi at Gnomedex! w00t! I *heart* WiFi!
