Remembering Jean Luc
I've been to three or four Peet's in LA, and each one of them carries the same lame brand of heavy cream: Alta Dena. I must be allergic to something in it, because I get a massive headache hours after I ingest the stuff. Not only that, but the water down there seems to be… different. So, I've decided to go back to brewing at home. Turning to the Coffee Geek (known for his mobile misadventures), I learned that the Capresso MT500 was the machine to own. One now sits on our kitchen table, with better filters en route from another online store. Some would say I go too far with my addiction; I would say that some don't go far enough.

I'm with you on that one, Chris. Some people can't figure out why I freaked when my favorite 20 oz mug started to crack. It's a personal thing…

I own a Capresso…. have had it about 3 years, and I love it. I also happen to have a closet full of previous coffee makers that I tried and didn't like. Your post reminded me that my Capresso is missing that little doo-dad that allows me to pour a cup while the coffee is still brewing/pouring into the carafe. I couldn't find it on their website, but I called their 800 number, and they are sending it to me no charge. A definite thumbs up for Capresso!

I thought the water in the south came from northern CA.

Capresso rocks. My wife bought me one 7 years ago before we were married and we use it literally everyday with no problems. The water in SoCal SUX, big time. You will have to get used to using bottled water for the best tasting coffee. BTW-Alta Dena is a premier dairy in SoCal, if you can find Hollandia , you might try that instead.

Hmm, I used to have a Krups drip brewer. Actually I still have it, just don't use it anymore.
I now swear by my Bodum Press-Pot. (aka French-Press. “Freedom Press” to some out there :) )Makes my coffee more full-bodied and I can control how strong it is by how long I let the grinds seep.

Coffee with its caffeine can give you a headache after drinking it for years even though you might never have got a headache from coffee before…as you get older…it can happen…you are now 30…a whole new decade starts with different health problems…

No Chris, it is just you. The rest of us pod people can digest the cream without any difficulty.
Please proceed to the nearest re-alignment station.

I wonder how you would have reacted if they told you that it was the same heavy cream that they used up in SF. It might be the change in climate too. I lived in SF for about a year and I did a road trip down to LA. Result: Massive headache.

Gulp. 20oz (big gulp) coffees. sigh. :) Why, America, Why? What's wrong with gettin' a 12oz to go, and savor it in the time it would take to drink that?
Oh shit, I'm off on a rant. Gotta go write up something in Word…

Chris, You might contemplate purchasing one of those inline filtering systems that attaches to the faucet. I think the water from Mexico sneaks across the border and makes it way to LA. If that isn't the cause, could someone get their kids out of the drinking reservior. Thanks from San Diego.

Headache… either lack of caffeine or it was the smog… either way… both will get you in the end
