Recasting the Podcast Caste

A few weeks ago, I started to redirect thechrispirilloshow.com, chrispirilloshow.com, and chrispirillo.com to a subdirectory of my blog - essentially putting everything me-centric on a single “me” URL (even live.pirillo.com redirects to a subdirectory of chris.pirillo.com). I’m pretty happy with the move, but I’m also considering merging the podcast blog with this personal one. Right now, I’m maintaining two separate installations of WordPress for each - leveraging traffic between them in a very clumsy fashion.

I’ve been producing more videos as of late, if you hadn’t noticed. I’d rather not cross-post them here, but I’d also like to keep them in a hierarchical universe of their own. The feed is completely separate, and would certainly remain so. Are the people reading my “vanilla” blog just as interested in the tech nuggets I’m serving up daily?

…or are podcasts dying?

I’m not sure I get the “are podcasts dying,” line. They’re certainly not dying for me, and are launching my fiction writing to crazy-whack-funky heights. However, like radio, you can have a show rise in popularity, peak, and decline as people look for something new. That’s why radio stations change format so frequently - as more competition comes into the market, those new podcasts take listeners away from you (you can only listen to so many of those things each week). The more quality podcasts, the smaller your market share. You can definitely say some individual podcasts are declining, but overall, it seems like things are on the up.

I am definitely interested in the podcasts - I find them very useful and yes, entertaining. I kind of like having them separate from the regular blog and not cross-posting. So I, for one, vote for you continuing with the daily “tech nuggets” !

Just got off 36 hours of planes from Bangkok, but must tell you that all coordination is good. Put it all in one place for branding! Trust me, the cartoon below is true.
