Reasons I Use Outlook

I’ve been using Microsoft Outlook for about 9 years now. It’s an excellent personal information manager… from mail, to tasks and notes, to the calendar. Here is Lisa’s list of reasons why she uses Outlook, as well.
- It’s much faster to get into your email using Outlook, than it is having to open a browser and log into a webmail client. All you have to do for Outlook is double-click the icon on your desktop, and it’s all right there.
- It’s SO easy to set up. There are tours, guides and instructions every step of the way to get you started.
- You can use an Exchange server with it. This will allow you to share information and schedules with others, such as your co-workers or family.
- Outlook has excellent little reminder sounds built in, so you never forget an appointment or task!
- You can personalize pretty much everything, from your signature to setting up a reading pane.
As I said before, I use Outlook as well, and love it. It keeps everything in one place for me, and makes it much easier to manage it all.

Come on
Apple mail is for kids in comparison with Outlook. Just like everything else from Apple. Mac is for snobs. They pay twice to have the same thing.

You can sit down and compare Outlook 2007 with the newest version of Apple mail. I an sure a non biased mind could not possibly vote for Apple Mail after that. Apart from Apple fangayboys.

that really gets to me, why the fruck do you think that mac users are ***? **** you for thinking that, infact, pc fanboys think that theyre ***. im not ***, and being *** is normal, you are just homophobic and prejudice. i know apple mail isnt the best, its for small purposes, just for basic email and extras. but please stop attacking mac users for choosing a computer over the other, new apple users are giving macs 5/5s. if you dont like macs for some odd reason, keep your hate to yourself

I bought the Getting Things Done Add-in for Outlook a year ago and I’m hooked on it. It helps me collect all of my tasks, appointments and Emails into a more robust database of sorts so that I can find it more easily later on.
The GTD Add-in is made by NetCentrics.

I personally have never used Outlook. I am too used to Yahoo! (AT&T) Mail. But it sounds like that if it works out for you for all those years, then it seems like your good to go! :)

I use Outlook 2003 and I find it usable. I will be upgrading to 2007 in the near future.
I have only just started using Outlook as I wanted a Calender and Task Manager etc all inside one application. I have Outlook running for my Googlemail account and Mozilla Thunderbird for my Pipex (Broadband provider) account as I use both.
I was told that Outlook is buggy and should be avoided, but it does have its fair share of issues, but what application doesn’t?
I like outlook for all of its features and will continue using it, and am looking forward to upgrading.

I highly recommend that you look at Firstclass
http://www.firstclass.com
It is a superior solution to the microsoft scheme of multiple programs to do what you appear to like - PIM, calendar, e-mail and it has chat, blog, secure conferences/discussions and a truly collaborative online environemnt. The client is free and versions for WIN, MAC and LINUX exist. You can also access via web-browser. But be sure to check out the client experience.
I sent you an e-mail about this with access to my server to try firstclass out for yourself.

One of the most important reasons for using Outlook is the large number of add-ins for it — that’s the best reason to use Firefox too.

I used Outlook for years and always considered it the standard by which other options were judged against. I was comfortable with the interface and however always was amazed at how much of a resource hog it was and continually getting worse.
About 18 months ago I setup a gmail account to play with. Haven’t used or missed Outlook in 16 months. I will admit the gmail interface is clunky but the ability to search ALL my email (probably over 100,000 messages) INSTANTLY is what “sold” me on this FREE solution ;)
Now that the Google Calendar is integrated into gmail the growing Google suite has surpassed the functionality of Outlook and offers cool features like “understanding” my email i.e. asks me if it should add “lunch with Grandma @ noon on the 27th” to my calendar and of course adds driving directions to the Calendar entries automatically to the invites I get for my kids’ birthday parties. The TXT messages I get reminding me to get a present a week before the parties also have saved me from using the “I can’t believe I left the birthday gift on the entrance table” line. (now it’s true when I say it ….lol)
The shared calendar features are very robust and mobile integration actually keep me fairly organized.
With the exception of the UI personalization I find Google does EVERYTHING better than the items in Lisa’s list.
AND maybe I’m missing something but… “[opening Outlook] is much faster to get into your email using Outlook, than it is having to open a browser and log into a webmail client. All you have to do for Outlook is double-click the icon on your desktop, and it’s all right there.” ..huh??
-A shortcut to gmail is about as fast as it gets…. other than clicking a tab in an already open browser.
One last quick point… I’d rather rely on Google’s IT department than 99% of any other company’s… oh and it’s installed on EVERY computer.

@James
“I will be upgrading to 2007 in the near future.” Considering 2007 an upgrade is debatable… I installed it on a new machine for my mom last month, and I personally think 2003 is/was the best version.
I’m not a Microsoft hater :) I still think XP is the best OS for most applications. I’m no longer in the IT business but I am a certified geek and have 11 computers at home (30+ cores) and other than my Mac and 1 dedicated Linux box they all run XP as their host OS.
