Putting Windows Vista on a Mac from Apple

Some chatters are near tears, because Ponzi is installing Vista on her new MacBook Air. She wants to dual boot, and she’s determined to use Vista. She is so used to working with Outlook, she doesn’t want to give it up. That is her main reason for dual booting, and running Windows on her new MacBook Air.
We’re trying to talk her into other options, to replace Outlook with. Some are recommending Thunderbird. I, of course, am trying to convince her to just use our Server. Keep in mind, Ponzi has never really used Vista much. This should be interesting for her.
She keeps going back to the RSS feed reader problems she’s been having. I reminded her that Apple Mail has RSS built right into it. She doesn’t much like change, does she? Why is she fighting me? Don’t you all think she should be open to trying something new? It may actually be easier for her!

Let her run Windows! Jeez. You know Vista is not that bad, although!! the Macbook Air has so little power Vista may not run smoothly. Put XP on there for her Chris its obvious that the Macbook Air wont run it nicely. I don’t think that was the intent of the Macbook Air :P XP maybe, Vista… hmm probably not, i’m interested to hear about how it went though.
What the heck is with the global Vista hatred! The operating system had a horrible launch but its a solid system now. The hatred is unneeded.

I agree with Ponzi in that you work with what you feel is most comfortable. I use both Mac OS and Windows since grade school and each has their good and bad qualities. But I find it funny how there are people who constantly bash Vista but can’t back it up. Like the guy Raven in the video said “It’s just bad…I mean it can do the same things OS X can do but…it’s just bad”-okay. It all boils down to preference and stop trying to convert Windows users. It makes it feel like people who prefer Windows in particularly Vista feel like their listening to door to door salesman telling us are vacuum sucks (no pun intended) compared to the Kirby they are selling.

I have to side with TheDub. I held out on upgrading to Vista. However, the more people I run into who are runing Vista (some power usrs), the more I want to upgrade myself.
In fact, I know more people complaining about quirks with Leopard. That said, Vista is probably not the OS for Air’s makeup. Ponzi should probably go for XP instead.

Vista is one of the best operating systems I’ve ever used… I had more than my fair share of issues at first. I’ve since learned that the issues I was experiencing were due mainly to poor driver support and my own ignorance.
I agree with the poster above, it’s a solid system now. Also, I’m a solid user. With a few changes, Vista is much faster and responsive than I ever remember XP being. Plus, Vista has been vault solid. The system analysis tools are among the best I’ve ever used. I went from hating Vista to loving it… I actually prefer Vista over OS X.
Also, I prefer Outlook hands down over Thunderbird. Thunderbird isn’t to Outlook as Firefox is to Explorer.

This video and discussion illustrates a common concern many computer users have, and one that “geeks” tend to forget, change. Coming from an IT department in a large corporation, I see it all the time. People do not like change. They do not like to step outside their comfort zone…and it’s because people, in general, do not like not knowing how to do things.
Why not run Vista on a Mac if that’s what she’s comfortable with and wants to use? It IS her machine after all. AND, as has been stated in many videos before…a Mac is just a PC like any other PC…it’s just a computer.

I don’t really see a problem with Windows Vista at all. I KNOW I KNOW Im going to be hated for this but if she really wants to use Outlook than why not install windows vista on her Macintosh. ITs her choice and she can do what she wants to do. I am not a big fan of outlook so I am not very famailiar with that program. I use gmail for my email cilent.
I know you have an exchange server, So ponzi could use the exchange server to check her email but i guess it boils down to her being. If she wants to use vista than let her use that.

You go Ponzi. Take that Macbook Air and just test-drive the HECK out of it. Put it all on there. Download it, install it, run it. Besides, Chris has said many times that Windows runs better on a Mac than it does on a traditional PC anyway so I say GO FOR IT!
P.S. *pukes on Outlook* lol

i HAVE vista and it has good software and all and it runs fine but it has bugs that get really annoying and it could be better, so i guess it doesn’t suck but its not great…

true that – it’s just that there are really specific things that might not work well together – and it gets annoying after a while. But you’ll only find that out if you try to do too many things at once…
But for personal use (like gaming, surfing the web, using certain apps like Word and Paint and Publisher, etc…) I think Vista overwhelmes OSX. It’s so hard to get used to when using if for the first time…
(I had a MacBook for exactly 7 days, then sold it… it pissed me off)

Yeah, the first version of an operating system is always full of flaws and little annoying problems… We’ll see about Vista SP2… hopefully that will be better.
XP still has some flaws (even now)

there is nothing really wrong with windows or macs, they all have the occassional crash/freeze problem. The only things i hate about macs is the fact that offices looks shit on it, and also no games or business applications, alot of older hardware out is not supported. Finally lets not forget the price premium, example, i purchased a 24inch hd lg pc monitor for £350($700) and apple was selling theirs for (£400), and my lg has better spec too.

You’re criticising people for being “emotional about software”, but your reason for running Windows Vista on a Mac is that you like using Outlook and don’t want to spend time with a learning curve. What learning curve? Kids work it out in seconds.
Get used to it, you chose the wrong operating system. Give Mac OS X five minutes and you’ll love it, and you’ll never go back.
