PSP + PSPMM + Flickr = Photocasting
I wrote about the new PSP Media Manager yesterday; I've been playing with it a bit more and finding that its video transcoding is not as nice as PSPWare's after all. That said, Sony has inadvertently initiated something that I've been waiting for – podcasting for photos. You can do it quickly and easily with a PSP, the PSPMM, and a properly encoded Flickr RSS URL:
- Locate a Flickr user, tag, group, etc.
- Copy the Flickr RSS 2.0 URL to the clipboard (example)
- In the PSPMM, flip to the Feeds icon
- Press the Add a Feed button
- Paste the Flickr RSS 2.0 URL into the field
- IMPORTANT: ensure _enc is at the end of the pasted URL
- Press the OK button
- Press the Transfer button when your PSP is connected
- Enjoy your friend's photocasts!
Note, too, that you can change the settings for that feed by pressing the Options button next to the feed's thumbnail graphic; I've set mine to never delete old images, and to download 15 at a time. This is really cool, and rather easy to do. I think I've finally sold Ponzi on getting a PSP!
