Regarding the second comment, fruit is really great and I suppose you could even get a little hydrator and make your own dried fruit if you're concerned about your snack having too short a shelf life. Incidentally, I commend you for banning transfats from your life.

You have to be really careful when you read ingredients, as the amount of sugar is carefully disguised (see first comment above). Filled with whole nuts, organic pretzel pieces, and other tasty morsels, MOJO Bar currently contains 36% to 52% organic ingredients.

You might also try the <a

So you can't buy locally any of the following "healthy" snack foods:
Apple
Grapes
Orange
Tangerine
Bannana
Celery
Tomatos
Plum
Pluat
The above all have very convienient packaging. The below are a little less convieniently packaged, generally need a knife to open package:
Watermelon (not as well packaged)
Canaloupe
Papya
Kiwi
Mango
Where I live, many stores stock the above "snack" foods.

The second and fifth ingredients are essentially sugar syrups (especially the "evaporated cane juice"...duh, that's a euphemism for cane sugar!). Note also all the concentrated fruit juices--again, basically flavored sugar. The reason why some bars taste better than others is generally that the yuccky ones have a lot less sugar and more of that disgusting tasting soy protein. You'd be better off eating a small dark semisweet chocolate bar (to get those phenols!) and some almonds (to get fiber and omega 3 oils). You'd be getting a LOT less sugar.

Sorry, Chris, but your PowerBar is probably 30% pure sugar, which really isn't that much different than a plain chocolate bar nor is it “good” for you.
