Pop Out

Which one of the following pop-up and pop-under advertisers bothers you most: Doubleclick (seen on Lycos, Excite, Yahoo, etc.), Advertising.com, X10, Fastclick (serves “click to win” ads), Interpolls (serves movie ads), 24/7 Media, Avenue A, or Blue Streak? Well, no matter – with a few clicks, you'll have No More Popup Ads. Thanks to Technoerotica, my browser feels a lot cleaner – and I didn't have to install any extra software. Instead, I switched certain cookies to “opt-out” status. I'm not sure if this will work on every applicable site, but I do believe it's better than doing nothing – and letting those little bastards ever see the light of day is not an option.

i personally hate x10 the worst, although i hate them all, especially the ones that strip the title bar so you have to alt-f4 them. grrr…

The reason why they get such tremendous click-thrus is because everyone scrambles to close them. Their finger slips and they inadvertently miss the X.
