Ponzi Covers BlogHer Part 1

On July 30, 2005 the first BlogHer conference took place at the Network Meeting Center in the TechMart in Santa Clara, CA. The conference was created around the idea of promoting awareness of women in blogging and the issues women who blog are interested in. Ponzi was on hand for the event and got some outstanding interviews with particpants. This is the first of three parts of Ponzi’s BlogHer coverage.

Ponzi on BlogHer

Ponzi told us about the BlogHer bloggers conference.

Cellphones

TeddGCM called in to discuss the latest offerings from Cingular.

eMachines

Ryan Hoffman let a voicemail to let us know about his recent positive experience with eMachines.

Subwolf

Subwolf of blogshares.com called in to say how much he hates eMachines and how chicken he is to talk on the phone to Chris.

Michael Robertson – Gizmo

Michael Robertson spoke with Chris on how Project Gizmo differs from Skype. Gizmo offers a few features that Skype doesn’t. For instance Gizmo has a record button and will soon be adding sound effects.

Updating your BIOS

swordofdestiny called in to ask how you update your BIOS. He has a PhoenixBIOS.

To update a system BIOS you should check the computer manufacturer’s web site or the motherboard manufacturer’s web site if you built the system yourself. Beware, its generally not a good idea to update your BIOS if your system is performing fine as it can be a risky procedure. For instance, if the power should go out while flashing the BIOS the motherboard will be unusable.

Swordofdestiny also asked why his DSL modem says it’s connected but when you try to touch the internet it’s actually disconnected. Chris suggested that he pick up a router as it will help keep his connection alive.

Garmin GPS

Chris’ father asked where he can find a how to book for his Garmin GPS. Chris suggested he take a look at: A GPS User Manual: Working With Garmin Receivers

Beth on Blogher

Beth called in to talk to Ponzi about the BlogHer bloggers conference. Beth attended the conference because she is interested in blogging about issues and causes for non-profits.

Mixing RAM

Jeff is looking for PC3200 RAM memory for his PC. The lowest priced PC3200 RAM he found said it was for a Mac G5 and he’d like to know if that can be used in his PC.

Chris suggested he purchases another stick exactly the same as the one he currently has. Mixing memory can cause performance problems.

Catherine Lawrence

Ponzi interviewed Catherine Lawrence of PinkVision. She wasn’t able to attend the Blogher conference but monitored it online through the chatroom and stream.

Chris’ Mother and Father

Chris’ mother share some embarrassing stories about Chris. Apparently Chris was a Dukes of Hazard fan, played with a Boss Hog action figure, and once fell of a camper while trying to fly.

Chris’ father relayed a story when Chris ran away. Chris was hiding by a creek when his father found him and asked why he ran away. Chris said it was because he had a report to turn in the next day but he didn’t start it. Chris’ father suggested he write the first and last sentence and the rest between is all bullshit. To this day Chris still uses the bullshit. ;)

Backup utilities

Someone wrote in to ask about backup utilites. In the chatroom most recommend Retrospect available at Dantz.com

This Week In Games

This Week In Games – TWIG – is a weekly podcast. In every episode I’ll give you the lowdown on what’s going on in the industry, and tack along my personal opinions.

After a weeks respid – we’re back! This show, clocking in at around 20 minutes, catches up on the past two weeks of gaming news that I’ve missed out on, including: the FTC’s investigation of Hot Coffee, a Florida Attorney’s attempt to get the Sims 2 banned, the Xbox 360 price and release date, speculation on the Playsation 3’s release date, and so much more!

As a sort of apology, I’ve thrown in two classic songs by Al Lowe which he sang for Freddy Pharkus, Frontier Pharmacist.

Ask Leo

It’s come up yet again: the debate on how much of your content belongs in your RSS feed. Show notes for Leo’s show are available on his web site: http://ask-leo.com/full_feeds_or_not_full_feeds.html
