I think it is a faulty term not because it suggests a particular company's mobile audio player - but because it assumes audio described in RSS-XML will only be consumed on mobile devices. Because this content is described in a machine-readable language ANYTHING can and will consume and play this content.
I use MP3-RSS-XML as a playlist for Flash players on your browser on your desktop. So Adam's Daily Source Code is now deskcasting? because I play his channel through my flash audio player at www.hellthy.com. And my Hellthy mp3 feed is being played on my desktop and in people's iPods - am I podcasting?
All we are doing is describing our content in rss-xml. That's it. We do not control the last mile of the distribution path. Anything can happen to our content when we put it in an understood xml vocab. and released to the world.
So it seems to me that we are "Metacasting" (which is an even geekier term.) And other apps are doing what they will with this described content. That's my suggestion.

No, but perhaps someone should look up the status of "Riverdancing", just in case.

RE: Should Rivercasting be limited to iRiver players?<br

I mean, how many MILLIONS of iPods are out there? Heck if I could say "radio for your iPod" and not get smacked by Apple, I would. People get that.

You gotta ask yourself tho, just because it has an acronym, does that make it any less iPod? Doubt it.<br

Just need to come up with an acronym for POD that doesn't refer to the iPod.

Can one blog if your not using blogger?<br

It's the hot new thing for folks like me who don't have alot of $$$$ to .. umm.. cast around. ;D
I LOVE the .wmv! And how you steadily lose your patience. I wish you had kept it going a bit longer, to hear the climatic "DON'T!!!!!!". ;D

I agree. “Zen-Casting” has a nice ring to it! :) Also, don't forget the ever-popular “RCA Lyra” Casting!
