My wife Ponzi was supposed to do this product review. She’s the one who wanted one of these video visor things. It’s been on her wish list for a few years now. I ended up getting one for her as a Christmas present last year, and she hated it. It was uncomfortable and the quality was bad. I was lucky enough to make the right connection to be able to review this Video Visor from Headplay. The best news of all is that if you use that link, and coupon code HP5OFF, you can save 5% on your purchase of one!
Your HEADPLAY Personal Cinema System is a portable visual headset and multi-media center delivering a comfortable, immersive, high-resolution, cinematic viewing experience for gaming, movie watching and Internet use.
It is versatile, convenient and gives you the feeling of being in your own private theater. It is also compatible with most media devices.
With content availability, the HEADPLAY Personal Cinema System delivers a breakthrough in personal entertainment enjoyment - next generation stereoscopic 3D gaming and movie viewing.
Ponzi said that she felt this headset is very comfortable, the quality is very good.. and she likes the options for expandability. That to me says it all. I can look at any piece of hardware, and pass judgement. But the bar is set so high with Ponzi, it’s not easy to make her happy. So for her to give her praise to this product says a lot. The features and specs are as follows:
- Field of View: 36 degree diagonal
- Virtual Image Size: 52″ diagonal at 6′
- Display Technology LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon)
- LCoS Refresh Rate: Up to 120 Hz
- Color Depth: 8 bits RGB
- Resolution: Supports 1024 x 768 VGA, 800 x 600 VGA, 720 x 480 VGA, and 640 x 480 VGA
- Video Output: Progressive Scan 800 x 600 native
- Resolution: 360 color fields per second
- Video Input: S-Video/Composite
- Audio Input: Stereo
- Audio Output: Stereo headphone jack
- Built-in 3D video playback support
- Supports 16 million colors
- Automatic PC resolution configure
All in all, this may be expensive, but it’s well worth the money. It has excellent quality, and is so lightweight and convenient.

That’s too bad that they’re not that great. The specs seem to be so promising, too! Maybe they’ll up the resolution, weight, and overall comfort level.
If that happens, I may just be in the market! Keep us posted if anything new pops up about these!

Thanks for a reviewing the Headplay. I’ve been looking for a good visor display for years. Most make promises of good quality, but are not very usable. It’s either weight, fit or video quality that kills them as a viable option.
$500 sounds reasonable for a high quality video device.
Would you consider using it as a big screen TV substitute for movie viewing?
