Photoshop is really good for non photo designs, and also photo designs. I mainly use it for designing logos, web layouts or rarely photos. But It is the best designing tool out there.

Chris I’ve been a member of NAPP for the past 3 years and have really enjoyed the community forum and the tutorials. Most people who are members already know that the site also has some great bargains also from different companies that are helpful to the photography industry. I like the way you talked about layers and being aware of that layer you are working on. For the most part the hardest thing to learn about editing is how layers are great for editing without effecting the original pixels.

If you want precise lines, yeah use vector or crop tool, if you want to precisely crop out an object, of course use the magic wand tool, in CS3 you have the quick selection tool, but it tries to hard to anticipate what you want. Remember, all the selection tools are like “eyeballing” a real picture before you cut it with an exact-o, hitting delete after selecting, is like actually cutting it. Remember your select inverse tool as well.

Try Aperture. It is made by Apple and is very easy to use. ( I wrote an awesome comparison between both Aperture and Photoshop, but it was too long to post. Youtube wouldn’t let me :( Sorry.

Use the eraser tool to fade an image? Bloody hell no, use layer masks and gradients. Why is using the eraser tool bad? Because you permanently delete the image, using a layer mask does not permanently change the image, it also gives you FULL modification, if you want to change the area affected, its simple, change the mask.

No offence to CabanaGuy, but must of these tips were rubbish. Last 2 were good though.
