Persian rugs are made by hand. It takes months to sow something of that magnitude (not to mention coming up with the patterns).

You're experiencing something I go through with my wife all the time. Two of her famous philisophical sayings:
- It doesn't matter how much it costs if the savings are big enough.
- Everything won gambling is profit regardless of the dollar amount of previous bets resulting in losses.

Persian rugs improve with age and use. It's all to do with the lanolin on the wool – so walk on them – and eventually have them professionally cleaned by a specialist.

Bakhtiari rugs are beautiful!
Persian rugs retain value over time & stay in remarkably good shape. Still not a good place for puppies to do their business, but I think it's ok if you look at the rugs!

why do people buy picasso, frida, etc.
its art, not a machine made wal-mart rug (owner of 3)
i havea persian rug thats 120 years old that my mother gaved me and her mother gave it to her and so on, i look at it and im amazed of the perfection and more amazed that a person spend days, and knowledge in my livingroom rug.

I think that people who sell rugs have a genetic defect: here, we are /always/ seeing ads for rugs on sale… 95%+ off. “Massively overstocked”, etc, etc…. I'm wondering if there's a predisposition for “not being able to accurately forecast sales” and a link to the floor-covering profession?

He, he, he. The standard universal male response. Reminds me of one of the truisms of decorating science: “Carpets are expensive and husbands are cheap.”
