How to Choose and Wear a Fragrance
When choosing a perfume, you should find a scent that can become your signature, and stick with it. You’ll likely have to test many different ones. In order to best determine how a fragrance smells on you, don’t sniff it the moment you spray it on. Let it sit on your skin for about ten minutes first, and then take a whiff! Also, don’t test more than three at any one time, or your nose will just get confused. You won’t have any idea which is which – and they’ll all mix together anyway.
Perfume smells its strongest on your pulse points, where the skin is the warmest. For the strongest effect, dab or spray your scent on your wrists, behind your ear, at the nape of your neck, inside your elbows, and behind your knees. Also, the smell will last longest on moisturized skin, so don’t forget the unscented (or matching scent, if available) lotion first!
Spray bottles of perfume last much longer than the splash counterparts. It should be kept in a cool, dry place and out of direct sunlight. If possible, keep the bottle in the box it came in to help keep it fresh longer. Scents will usually be good for about three years from date of manufacture.
Think about how strong you want your perfume to smell. Light scents are perfect for wearing during the summer. Heavier ones are best for fancy shindigs and winter-time. If you’re going to be in a close meeting room, you definitely don’t want to wear something strong or overpowering. Be aware of what you’ll be doing, and where you’ll be, when choosing what fragrance to wear.
