Pat Moorehead and David Schwartzbach on AMD and Enthusiasts
AMD is pushing out some crazy new technologies pushing the limits of processor capabilities and redefining the way we think of desktop computing performance. On one hand, their optimizing systems with their 4×4 concept, which is multicore, multisocket goodness designed to handle multiple multithreaded tasks simultaneously (what they call Mega-tasking). On the other hand, AMD is rolling out high performance meant to help take the average user into the Windows Vista world and beyond. According to their marketing team, “In our technology development for the PC enthusiast market, AMD is seeing an 80 percent average performance uplift from four core over two core AMD64 processor-based systems on multi-threaded benchmarks including Futuremark 3DMark 06, Maxon Cinebench R9.5, and WinSAT running on the latest beta release of Windows Vista.” We translate that as marketing speak for AMD is kicking some serious butt! Chris recently spoke with Pat Moorehead and David Schwartzbach of AMD about recent developments both for enthusiasts and for the next generation of desktop systems.
