Outlook Killer
I've been complaining about Outlook's shortcomings for a while now, but it's the only usable PIM (as far as I'm concerned) for the Windows platform. Jake switched to Entourage many moons ago, but I'm far from ready to migrate my entire digital lifestyle to OS X. Enter Chandler, a promising personal information manager from the Open Source Applications Foundation (OSAF). I downloaded the Win32 binary, ran the batch file, and in seconds, was staring at a very rudimentary client. Even at 0.1, it's impressive. Whoever's listening to me: you're on the right track. Please, don't stop until you're finished – and ask for feedback every step of the way. UPDATE: Check out Spaces, another would-be Outlook clone in need of our support.
Amaze your friends the next time they beg you to come over and fix their computer problems. Using GoToAssist, you can instantly and easily log into their computer, allowing you to quickly diagnose those pesky errors, or even help them understand how their new program works.

I am in between M$ and Linux. I want to go 100% Linux but always end up back at Windows.

Im lost Chris, what doesnt Outlook do that you need it to? I use it for reading spam, err…email. It seems to do fine with that. (Along with a additional program, iHateSpam which works very well.)

I use Ximian Evolution in Linux and found it to be pretty good. But I(Jonathan Ellison) said before I end up back in windows. Sometimes I have to other projects in windows that I cant do in Linux right now.

I tried it out but on windows its just a bit too unstable. Its nice on linux but really it can't compete with evolution at this stage in its development. Though it does have a great deal of promise.

Chris-
It's really too bad you are no longer on TechTV. If you were you could put in a plug for Chandler and get a few more developers on the job. I really want to see this thing get to at least 0.5 (and have a useable database) before I move over from Outlook.
Did you notice the news aggregator? Outlook doesn't have one of those, I thought that was nice. (Of course Outlook will have one soon enough, I would assume.)
I thought the coolest part of Chandler was the batch file. When was the last time you used a batch file to run a windows program? Maybe you saw it in Win95 a bit, while you still had MS-DOS programs left over from the Win3.1 days. But really there hasn't been a new batch file made in 8 years, at least not for a serious software project.

Did you ever try the Palm Desktop Chris? When I didn't have Outlook, I found Palm Desktop very usable. Even though it was meant for use with a Palm PDA, it is free to download for anybody.

Act! 2000 (version 5, although 6 is now available) is a good PIM for Windows & it imports most of Outlook's data. Anyway, give the free demo a try. It's must better than previous versions. Miss seeing you on CFH.
