Outlook Evolution
Evolution finally runs on Windows! Looks like they released something a few months ago, although it just hit my radar this afternoon (in an email from Matt Hartley). “Evolution is an incredibly versatile email / calendar / PIM that took the Linux world by storm a few years ago.” I’m excited that there’s been some movement forward on this project, but I’m disappointed that Evolution for Win32 sports a nasty-ass UI. Of course, if Linux developers are trying to be more like Microsoft by making inconsistent and aesthetically-challenged interfaces, they’re succeeding. Here’s to hoping that Outlook 2007 won’t suck as much.

I tried this a couple of months ago and I know this comment will get slammed but Chris, Evolution on Windows looks just like it does in Linux. In Linux it looks good, in Windows it looks bad.
I wonder how it would look in the beautiful interface of a Mac (And I say that having never even owned a Mac).
Anyway maybe we should get over the ugly and just take it for a good piece of software.

The only problem is that you have to learn how to use it all by yourself.
Nobody can teach Evolution.

[...] Well, turns out that in the long run I was right! Reading Chris Porillos (sometime acerbic but always amusing) blog I came across news of a workable port of Evolution to Windows that tidies up some of the idiosyncrasies of the official port (which had also escaped my attention – I’ve been playing with Outlook 2007 beta and not seen the need to keep hunting alternatives). Shame Evolution looks ugly but it’s great to see the functionality is now here and stable. [...]
