The reading pane and the 'unread mail' searchfolders alone are worth upgrading for. I don't use Exchange and never had any problems/memory leaks. I use an exchange backend and LOVE the new version. I could never go back. I am also surprised that no one has mentioned the spam filters. I find them to be quite effective.
