Out of the Frying Pan

Here's an update on the DSL brouhaha. Now, it seems SBC has crossed my number with somebody else's. I've been getting wrong numbers right and left, and strange messages about picking up poker tables and missing doctor's appointments on my digital answering machine. WTF?!

Sound the alarm, Chris! Get the word out that this service is not to be trusted!

Where is the guy in the commercial with the wireless laptop to come out to your house and fix everything while you stand at your door looking out nervously? Ooops, I keep having this recurring problem of believing commercials, disregard my comment (calling psychiatrist now)

Give 'em hell, Chris.

Three Letters: PUC, Public Utilities Comission. Call SBC and tell them to fix this NOW, or your filing a complaint with the PUC (I sure hope California has one). This was enough for us to get a phone call from US Worst's VP's office. It didn't hurt that my wife was a phone installer and a major pain in US Worst's *** either but I digress.
Raise hell, and tell them you're raising hell it's the only way to get service. Maybe they'll send one of the three decent installers in the state to sort you out.

Just face it, Chris. We are all at the whims of the corporate over-gods.
Or it could be just a bad service.

Do you scream before or after the coffee?

ROFLMAO
i felt the same way you did about the cable networks vs the dsl ones. i'm telling you, save yourself the headache and switch to cable. my dsl connections were ****. i might as well have been on 56k. do yourself a favor. i couldn't be happier with charter.

What about the poor souls who don't have the pirillo marketing machine behind them to speed up the process?
Uh oh Joe-blow-off-the-street is yelling at the support guy because of our subpar service level…. So just tell him that is the how it works, we're sorry and he'll be up in a week.
Uh oh CP is slamming us on his blog (which caters to an important demographic for our service!)! Get the marketing department to hook him up ASAP!

Hmmm, you raise a good point, but dont you think you are being a bit pretentious? Yeah you are Chris Pirillo. So who cares that you “wrote the first book on email publishing” and coordinate that little Gnomedex shindig. Maybe its time to get off your high horse and relax a bit. If this is the worse thing that happens to you- youre doing alright. Something tells me that being away from the internet for a bit might do you some good. Take a vacation or something. Its obvious you need to blow off some steam.

zimZimma: “Its obvious you need to blow off some steam.”
Like a “Weird Al” Yankovic concert. :)

Chris, sounds like it's time to try cable… Down here in San Diego Cox has been awesome. I don't know what your options are up there but could be worth checking into.

Good luck with SBC. I've had DSL with them for about four years now. It took them three years to finally make my connection half way stable and even now it's like pulling eye teeth to get any real help from them. On the bright side, they MIGHT be getting better. Anyway wanted to push some happy thoughts your way. After dealing with SBC I usually need all I can get.

Having worked for half a year at Qwest DSL, I can safely say with great conviction that ALL DSL SUCKS. You're running 21st century technology on top of 19th centurt technology and 1960's (or earlier) equipment. There are, on average, over 250 different variables that affect how DSL operates. Cable is so much faster, and doesn't require a Cisco 678 DSL Router and a knowledge of Hyperterminal and the Cisco OS to configure.

Pick up the poker table anyway, I'll take it.

Funny, I've had my SBC DSL for going on 3 years and I've never needed a Cisco 678 router or knowledge fo Hyperterminal to get it going.
Chris, DSL is a beast that need to be tamed. But, once it is going solid, it is fantastic! Just give it a bit of time.

This is why I pay more to go through someone else instead of having SBC mess up my services!

poker table? are you getting ready to set up the first casino in L.A.?

Hey Chris- You should stop by the PacBell forum at http://www.dslreports.com so we can get you sorted out.

OK, I see you got it going. They usually do work before the official date and just to clarify, there is often a LOT more to priovisioning a new line than “flipping the switch:. :)

Hope you realize that somebody else who has been waiting for a week just got bumped. Is that the same attitude that got you the boot from Tech TV?

Squeeky wheel gets the grease. And I'm not talkin' John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.

Damn, I feel like I dodged a bullet. My SBC/Yahoo! DSL install went like a dream and my account was ready ahead of the scheduled date. And my connection has been strong and stable. But they do need to simplify and unbloat that install.
Meanwhile, Chris, keep giving them hell. Like others said, you ARE a notable figure in cyberspace–but that's not why you should make so much noise. It's because YOUR clout speaks for US who have NO clout. We need all the advocates we can get.

Well, well, well, it would seem that you've attracted yourself a couple of trolls. Aren't you lucky ;) As for the rest… I agree with what Dave said.

What Do You Think?
