Oops

To all the folks in New York City, Cleveland, Detroit, Toronto, and Ottawa: I'm sorry. I was testing a new super-computer and forgot to implement a power regulator. Hopefully, this accident didn't cause too much of an inconvenience for you?

Yes- for a couple seconds

Hey, dont forget us small people in Toledo, OH. We were out for about 30 minutes. Well, I actually live about 10 miles south of Toledo and we were out as well.

This is not really a joke, though. Thousands are trapped in Subways

If I sounded like I was joking, I wasn't. Sorry. Your right though, it's not a joke.

yes but the people in the subways are escaping with the ehelp of the conductors and the NYC Police. I belive that Chris was just trying to ease people.

I know that, chef855, I dont think Bryan does though!

Yes don't forget about Toledo. There are people here, downtown, who are stuck in elevators. Most areas are still without power right now.

Yes- I see that people are escaping. Jason- nothing personal to you- just a comment on Chris's Post- not yours ;)

so it was you! you messed up my aol account too. j/k — hope everybody's ok now.

Hello from Rochester, NY! We just got our power back about one hour ago! Everyone was acting like we are seeing the end of the world!!!!!! Unbelievable! Thanks goodness that I have my own text-pager to contact my friends to see what actually happened.
Glad that everything is going okay right now! :-) I'm back and alive!

Yep, can't forget Toledo. Lots of the city is without power. Fortunately, we lost power for only 15 minutes.

Thanks, Chris… but thanks to my dad being one of those Y2K freaks back in the day I have a 5500 Watt generator in my garage. Now how do I hook this thing up…

shame on you chris. you should have double checked on that power regulator

That moblog is pretty neat. You don't see NYC intersections in the dark everyday.

Better them than us.

So it was not your new coffee machine?

Well, up here in Canada, in my small town here, just about 25 miles from London, Ontario, 8 hours, now power.

One thing you got to love about Chris. He never does anything small. LMAO!

Hope the volts are back in action soon :-)

I knew it was you!!! FInally after 20 hours without power I'm back online!!! w00t

The power is actually back on here after about 12 hours!! I live in small town Soutern Ontario. Basically all of Ontario has had their power out. A lot of it is coming back but its very unstable and it probably will go out again. Our premier says that by the end of today hopefully 2/3 of Ontario will have power.
this is a quote from the news “We're living in a superpower with a third world country power grid”

I KNEW IT!! That was the first thing I said when I saw that the power was out here in Detroit… Chris Pirillo has got to be behind this!! And I was exactly right! Shame on you Chris!!!
;)

Damn Chris! Looks like you got urself a pretty powerful computer there… Maybe you should call Microsoft to see if they want to monopolize it maybe?

hey, you didn't mention Pennsylvania. you'd better apologize to me too!

Great example of Dan Gillmor's speach at Gnomedex.

I'm not sure any1 else noticed, but Cat Schwartz happens to be in New York City this week. I'm not sure if she's still in the city, still stranded without power, or she managed to flew back home safely, just in a nick of time…..does anyone know what's her current condition is now? where she at now?

you must be joking chris! I was the culprit of the black out of 2003! I had my Xerox 5690 running, a DOC 2045, All the binding stations punching, A 220 watt laminator laminating a 40 foot poster. All the Self Serve copiers were being used by customers. And to top it off, The computer rentals were all being used and as I was getting ready to snap a passport photo, The lights went out….

Now I know who to blame. GRRR! :) I'm between Toronto and Ottawa. Power came back on at 5:09am est.

Next time Chris can you warn us. Geez, I was without an Internet Connection for 22 hours…. Man that was torture. Seriously, I hope all in my home state of NY are doing better now. The lights are on !!!!!!

Hey nice I like the use of yellownotebook paper to give it an esoteric flavor. Well done blog…it kep my attention

I've had power in an apartment building in downtown Toronto since 4:15pm Friday without any brownouts/blackouts. Good job utility geeks!
Through the whole thing I kept thinking about that Twilight Zone episode where the aliens shutdown the power in a neighborhood and everyone begins to lose it, but everyone was great.
Nice I just have to clean off the fudgesicle ice rink that's formed in the freezer.

heh, there are some funny tshirts out there from this event : http://www.cafeshops.com/inolightny — it's amazing that this could even have happened. I'm sure there's going to be all kinds of safeguards to make sure it doesn't happen again… at least we can all dream, eh?

What Do You Think?
