Oops
To all the folks in New York City, Cleveland, Detroit, Toronto, and Ottawa: I'm sorry. I was testing a new super-computer and forgot to implement a power regulator. Hopefully, this accident didn't cause too much of an inconvenience for you?

This is not really a joke, though. Thousands are trapped in Subways

Yes don't forget about Toledo. There are people here, downtown, who are stuck in elevators. Most areas are still without power right now.

Hello from Rochester, NY! We just got our power back about one hour ago! Everyone was acting like we are seeing the end of the world!!!!!! Unbelievable! Thanks goodness that I have my own text-pager to contact my friends to see what actually happened.
Glad that everything is going okay right now! :-) I'm back and alive!

Yep, can't forget Toledo. Lots of the city is without power. Fortunately, we lost power for only 15 minutes.

The power is actually back on here after about 12 hours!! I live in small town Soutern Ontario. Basically all of Ontario has had their power out. A lot of it is coming back but its very unstable and it probably will go out again. Our premier says that by the end of today hopefully 2/3 of Ontario will have power.
this is a quote from the news “We're living in a superpower with a third world country power grid”

you must be joking chris! I was the culprit of the black out of 2003! I had my Xerox 5690 running, a DOC 2045, All the binding stations punching, A 220 watt laminator laminating a 40 foot poster. All the Self Serve copiers were being used by customers. And to top it off, The computer rentals were all being used and as I was getting ready to snap a passport photo, The lights went out….

I've had power in an apartment building in downtown Toronto since 4:15pm Friday without any brownouts/blackouts. Good job utility geeks!
Through the whole thing I kept thinking about that Twilight Zone episode where the aliens shutdown the power in a neighborhood and everyone begins to lose it, but everyone was great.
Nice I just have to clean off the fudgesicle ice rink that's formed in the freezer.

heh, there are some funny tshirts out there from this event : http://www.cafeshops.com/inolightny — it's amazing that this could even have happened. I'm sure there's going to be all kinds of safeguards to make sure it doesn't happen again… at least we can all dream, eh?
