One Red Paperclip Around the World in 365 Days
As indicated last week, during every live weekly broadcast, we’ll be giving away something substantial to a single participant (every week). To be eligible, you need to tune in, call in, and listen – and subscribe, of course.
This week, we are giving away a Sony PSP to one individual. You need to call in to the show between 6-8:30pm to be eligible. In the last 10 minutes of the live show, we will announce the giveaway. Call back in to stake your claim or forfeit to the next eligible listener.
On the show this week, Kyle from One Red Paperclip tells about his goal of trading up from a single paperclip to a house. He’s already transitioned through a fish pen, a doorknob, a camping stove, a generator, an instant party and is currently looking to swap a snowmobile.
Lee and Sachi are planning to spend a year travelling around the the world and blogging every step of the way. Just returned from a warm-up dogsled run in Banff, Canada, they are striking out from Seattle this weekend, flying to New York and headed out into the wide world to prove The World is not Flat. We’ll find out what prompted the journey and what they’ve done to prepare for a year abroad.
We’ll also hear from Alex Williams about the details for the coming Podcast Hotel slated for downtown Seattle.
Don’t forget, call in with questions to qualify for your shot at tonight’s Sony PSP.

Win a Xbox 360, PSP, or other great prizes!
Chris is giving away one substantial gift on every live show. By substantial we’re talking at the level of a PSP or Xbox 360! We’ll likely rotate the “big gift” every week, but it’ll always be worth a few hundred dollars!
For your chance to win tune in, join us in the chat, and call in! How difficult is that? No joke!
Tonight’s prize will be a Sony PSP!
Live From CES
During the Consumer Electronics Show the Chris Pirillo Show will be broadcasting live from Microsoft’s area at the show.
One Red Paperclip
Kyle tells about his goal of trading up from a single paperclip to a house. He’s already transitioned through a fish pen, a doorknob, a camping stove, a generator, an instant party, and is currently looking to swap a snowmobile.
Lee & Sachi
They are planning to spend a year travelling around the world and will be blogging every step of the way at Theworldisnotflat.com. Ponzi joked that she and Chris should try that too. Chris quickly stopped playing ridge racer to object.
Alex Williams
Alex writes for Cornte and joins us to talk about Podcast Hotel. He is visiting Seattle to look for a facility to host the conference. Tops on his list is the Triple Door Restaurant. Chris says the steak is excellent there.
The Podcast Hotel is an unconference which tries to take a different take on conferences. Instead of just having a panel talking, attendees are encouraged to talk and engage either other to share ideas. They hope to get more independent musicians to come to learn about podcasting as its an excellent medium for people to hear their music. Other topics that will be discussed include copyright, music, distribution, monitization, and how-to podcast sessions.
Tonight’s Calls
- Blake calls in to ask if he should switch over from MovableType to WordPress. Chris has been using MoveableType for years and years. He took a look at WordPress a while ago and really disliked the UI. But Chris like the extensibility of WordPress and user community that is developing for it. Since WordPress is open source its also free.
- Andy from GamersCicle called to say hes very disappointed with Chris’ Live 360 Gamers score of 25. Andy disabled his forums because he was getting spammed by viagra sellers. He was using phpbb. He’d also like to combine his CMS and the forums into one solution. Chris suggested Drupal. It is very powerful php open sourced solution.
- Debora, one of the forum moderators on Lockergnome’s community joined the fun by calling in to ask which gaming machine would make the best Christmas gift for her daughter, since they have none she didn’t know where to start.
- Aaron wanted to know if Chris and Ponzi made up after their Hawaii trip. Ponzi was happy to report that they did, and she kinda regrets blogging the whole escapade. Aaron is also having a power supply issue. The machine hung today and got a message in the bios that the video card isn’t getting power. So Aaron unplugged two fans and then was able to start the system. He currently has a 440W PSU. Jake suggested that the power supply might be going bad, the fans might need cleaning, or the video card is bad. Its also worth mentioning that a lot of power supply companies outright lie about their capacity and will overrate them. So you might be underpowered for the equipment you have installed.
