Nintendo Wii Super Mario Galaxy Review and Tips

One of our regular community members, SWAT, has just beaten Super Mario Galaxy. He’s going to give us his review, as well as some tips for playing the game.
So overall, what is your impression of the game? Overall the graphics are very good, even though the ending could have been more difficult.
What was the hardest part? The realm where you turn Mario into a Spring. It’s really difficult.
How does this one compare to other versions of Mario you’ve played? This one ranks up there as probably the best, overall.
How long did it take you to beat the game? It took me about 2 1/2 weeks, playing an hour or two a day.
Does it make it hard during times when the camera cannot keep up with your movements? It’s not bad most of the time, just when jumping from block to block.
What are some other tips you have for us?
- Get your timing down right away. It’s critical when jumping.
- Get the concept of gravity down. You’ll have to walk on walls and ceilings in this one!
- Get as many star bits as you can. These are what unlock the secret worlds.
- The ending is much easier than I hoped. I beat Bowser on the first try.

I recently acquired super mario galaxy and I love it. One bad thing is the severely weak multiplayer. The game is barely two player; the other player just sits there like an idiot shooting star bits! The thing that I do love about the game( and Nintendo in general) is the longevity. I could play this game over and over. Thank you Nintendo( Shiguru Miyamoto)

This video got me to start playing Super Mario Galaxy, and it’s pretty entertaining. It’s definitely one of the better Mario games, and I like it significantly more than Super Mario Sunshine.
I’d have to disagree with macworld about the multiplayer. If you have someone who really enjoys that second player role, it can be extremely useful. The ability to hold enemies in place is great.

Super Mario Galaxy is a really great game. There is a lot to do in this game, almost all worlds/galaxies are different.
For every world there is between 1-6 stages and most of the stages can be completed at around 3-5 minutes.
The downsides that I can think of is that there could have been more moves/attacks and the second player co-op could have had more options.

I got this for Christmas. I haven’t been a “fan” of the Mario and Super Mario games and, in fact, haven’t played one for about 15 years when I put away my GameBoy.
But this is addictive, fun and full or surprises. The tremendous variety of levels keeps the game from getting stale from galaxy to galaxy. I, for one, am grateful that the puzzles are not harder than they are. I’m not a youngster weaned on this stuff and the challange level for me is about right (don’t get me wrong….I’m not slow…I still kick my nieces’ asses at Wii Tennis).
A bonus “feature”… my wife giggles everytime I start it up and the squeaky little voice announces “Super Mario Galaxy.” She is very tolerant of my excessive play time as the sounds and music and pictures are all so entertaining even if just watching…Of course, the gyrations required to manipulate on the Wii add to the entertainment, at my expense.

My son got a wii with super mario galaxy for Christmas. I am a video game idiot. Can anyone give us a few really basic basic clues as to what you do? - I mean like what are you trying to do on the very first level. Where are you trying to go?
Please help !
