MySpace vs FaceBook

Five reasons I like MySpace:

  1. Everybody has a beautiful MySpace page
  2. It’s a haven for Internet marketers
  3. Tons of people over 99 years old – my demographic
  4. Easy discovery of loud music upon page load – no clicks required
  5. Advertisements are unobtrusive and targeted

Five reasons I hate FaceBook:

  1. Every page looks the same, is consistent, and is easily navigated
  2. Third-party integration increases functionality and adoption factor
  3. Personal email discussions are threaded – too organized
  4. Account is tied to my cell phone number – near impossible to game
  5. You don’t feel like you’re in the middle of a “friend competition”

Jeez, I really HATE FaceBook.

MySpace vs Facebook

http://live.pirillo.com/ – For whatever reason one of the worlds worst designed websites took off in popularity: MySpace. Chances are you have a MySpace account or you know someone who does. But Chris really isn’t impressed with it: it has turned into a spam farm with people gaming the system trying to attract traffic to their websites.

There is an alternative to MySpace, which offers some fun features: Facebook.

Facebook isn’t just one big site; it’s made up of lots of separate networks based around things like schools, companies, and regions.

If you want to see the profiles of your classmates or coworkers on the site, be sure to use your school or work email to register. You can search for anyone on Facebook, but you can only see profiles of your friends and people in your networks.

Facebook has taken the opposite approach to social networking: a clean interface and an open API. Combined with its clean interface and interactivity, it has won Chris over.

So, Chris chooses Facebook. What would you choose?

Facebook by a landslide.

I closed my MySpace account a few months ago, and haven’t really thought about it since. I just helped develop a Facebook app, and it was seamless. I couldn’t imagine making a MySpace app in Cold Fusion lol.

Rupert Murdoch may have a lot of money, but he has little brain power. MySpace will be popular for years to come because it has a solid community. I just moved to SF, and every young person I’ve met here embellishes MySpace because all of their friends are on it. More educated folks will use Facebook though.

My goal is to convert one MySpacer to Facebook each day.

I’ve had a MySpace for over a year and have done little with it. I have a number of blogs, nanoblogs, etc (like you!) and got my Facebook almost 2 months ago – I find I’m using it everyday and am trying to figure what business application there is. I’m posting your video on it right now (let me know if you want it off!).

Great post.

MySpace as a ‘Spam Farm’ is spot on – Facebook feels private and secure(!) and the GUI is clean and comprehensive. And it also feels creep-proof, unlike MySpace.

gee, i wish i could embed your little thingy there on my facebook, but the site doesn’t allow it. you’re gay

people complain myspace is copying facebook, meanwhile facebook copied the whole idea of myspace. i prefer myspace because like many people have already said, there are many ways to modify your profile and make it your own, and you can connect with people other than your real life friends. it’s easier to meet people there. :)
