My First Time on a Segway
David Geller was on his way home for the weekend, and he offered to stop by and let me ride on his brand-new Segway. Yes, a Segway – THAT Segway. I've seen one roll up and down our street a few times in the past, so I know there's more than a few in Seattle. When I was younger, I wished that I had duck feet – but Dean Kamen hasn't invented a Flapway as of yet. Still, Segways are so out-of-this-world expensive, that I just couldn't justify owning one.
That said, riding a Segway is a lot of fun – and this video proves it. I wondered if they'd ever come down in price, but David remarked that we wouldn't want any ol' idiot riding these things around, eh? Perhaps they'll have a Department of Segway Licensing soon. Wasn't too difficult to do – much easier than I thought it would be. Thanks, David – Ponzi's next! Segway rides for everyone at Gnomedex, BTW, according to Mr. Geller.

That looks like lots of fun! But geez they're expensive =(
Is it possible to lean too far forward or does it magically push you back up?
Man that looks neat though

Actually, the device will push back on you if you try and lean too far forward. It won't let you fall over – backward or forward. And, if you attempt to go too fast or perform a maneuver outside its operating range it will shack the stick. – David

Actually, I believe there was a big brouhaha with GWB falling forward onto his face on a Segway a while back. It just went to prove that you can't make anything completely idiot-proof,eh?

I believe they talked about it in the video.
It was mentioned that it was not powered when G Dubya tried to stand on it

Hi Chris! On a whim i decided to drop by your blog to check what's going on. I was reminded of your blog when i picked up a copy of CPU to read at the airport. After viewing your blog i have i have more questions than answers. Who's Ponzi? Are you still married and living in california? last i heard you moved to seattle… kinda a dangerous place for a coffee addict isn't it?
I read your article about trying new software… was it absolutely necessary to write a one page article comparing various solutions to burgers? It almost seemed like you were in a rush and typed that up the day before you handed it in to the editor :)
BTW Is there a URL or email i can use to send computer question to you? I kinda wish i'd taken advantage of the “free” help line on CFH
Anyways i just stopped by to say “Hi”. I have a feeling i'm gonna see you again on TV or the internet in some form sooner or later :)
