Motorcycle Safety Dad

My Dad has been riding motorcycles since he was 20 years old, and has been teaching motorcycle safety classes for about the past ten years. Hobby riding is a passion of his, and he and my Mom often take trips on their Honda Goldwing. They always use headsets to communicate while out riding. So, when one was given to me to check out… I knew there was no better person to test it and own it than my Dad!

This happens to be a Scala-Rider Q2 Bluetooth Motorcycle Headset from Cardo Systems. It allows bikers to receive GPS voice instructions, communicate with the passenger on the back seat, to conduct calls on their mobile phone and listen to the embedded FM radio. Last but not least, the Q2 offers biker-to-biker intercom communication when you’re riding with a friend!

Dad was very excited to receive this headset, and couldn’t wait to open it. If you have a full-face helmet, you would put the boom behind it. If you have an open-faced helmet, you can adjust the boom mic as needed. Dad discovered that there’s an 8-hour talk time, which is good for a long ride.

Dad has a beef with Iowa, in relation to motorcycle safety. There are never road signs for motorcyclists in Iowa, in order to warn them about hazardous road conditions. He has even talked with state legislators, asking them to use an electronic sign a few times a year to remind people to be alert and watch for motorcycles on the road. He feels it’s quite important. Not only is the rider themselves important to their safety – so are all of the other motorists on the road. Too often, people driving cars and trucks don’t notice a bike cruising along, since it’s so much smaller. If you’re not watching for them, you won’t see them.

Dad plans to not only use this while riding with Mom – he also wants to try using it while instructing his students! What a great way to use this!
