Mitch Ratcliffe on Paramedia

Posted by

Mitch Ratcliffe put the name Paramedia on the idea that regular people with the skillsets of traditional media and access to media publishing tools can come together to bring attention and influence to a common cause, in spite of not being officially deputized members of the press; not unlike the way paramilitary organizations have brought about change through the use of military tactics outside the role of a traditional military. In this discussion, from the October 6, 2005 live show, we talk with Mitch about paramedia as both a concept and as a reality. Rather than taking the stance that paramedia is either good or bad, we examine what paramedia looks like with some examples of what real world paramedia. You can read the full text of Mitch’s ad hoc thesis in The Era of Paramedia. Eric Rice joins in the discussion toward the end with his own thoughts on paramedia.
