Me So Sad

  • No related posts

Keep your tech toys far away from me today; I've upset the digital gods past the point of salvation. It all started with my journey to CompUSA to pick up a new Linksys Wireless Router (v2). Sorry, but I love the extensive browser-based interface! I was considering the a/b combo unit, but it was $100 more in the store than the most expensive price listed online. Came home, plugged in the new access point, renewed IPs successfully, flashed the BIOS, got two blinky red lights, reset the device, kept seeing red lights, started seeing red. Not good. My old unit will have to do for now.

I also picked up a new USB 2.0 CD drive (Memorex), in the hopes of trying a different OS on the Lindows Mobile PC. A couple of my bootable CDs didn't want to work. I tried Windows 2000, got through the initial driver-load stage, and then blue screened before I could even repartition the HD. Ugh. Looks like this baby is gonna take XP for a spin – or die trying. And given my track record this afternoon, I wouldn't be surprised if I soon see smoke trickling from its vents.

You rely on your computer, and so do your customers. Keep your computers (and theirs!) running in near-perfect condition with the help of Optimize 3.0. Use it to get rid of unnecessary files and junk, clean out your registry, and even streamline boot times.

Hey Chris, you likely been to this site before, came across it earlier tonight, and thought I would pass it along to you.

Would help if I posted the site.

What were you thinking Chris? Why would you buy the old Linksys Wireless Router when you could be getting the new Linksys Wireless G router for less than $130? I guess you'll also be taking the “crapped” out router back to CompUSA. :)

Welcome to my world. I've had worse days. Dropping cameras, breaking them. Losing data. Believe me, consider yourself lucky.

You're putting Windows on that laptop? What's the point? I'd much rather know how it handles another (read:real) Linux distribution.

wait for G, A is crap

I did the exact smae thing to my router when I updated it's ROM. I fixed it by reflashing it with the old default password and it worked just fine afterwards.

I recently had the exact same problem with the exact same router. The problem is that you have to have LAN access of some sort to the box in order to re-flash the firmware. To do this, explicitly set your NIC to 10Mbps half-duplex, plug the router in, let it do it's little diag thing, then hold the reset button for 30 seconds. It should then respond on the default IP address of 192.168.1.1, at which point you can re-flash the firmware. When finished, all of your previous settings will be re-enabled.

What Do You Think?
