Maxthon Script Error
If you’re running into script errors in Maxthon, especially when trying to view SWF or FLV files directly, you’re likely running into a limitation imposed by Microsoft on third-party browsers using IE’s engine.
I was asking Jeff about it tonight, as he was asking me to look at a new (forthcoming) build of Maxthon – and this is what he told me to do:
- Open your Registry Editor
- Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Internet Explorer \ MAIN \ FeatureControl \ FEATURE_BLOCK_LMZ_SCRIPT
- If FEATURE_BLOCK_LMZ_SCRIPT does not exist, you can create it as a new Key
- Add a Dword and name it Maxthon.exe – with a default value of 0.
- To confirm you’ve set this value properly, go ahead and export that particular portion of the Windows Registry and check it in Notepad: “Maxthon.exe”=dword:00000000 (as it would appear in the exported .REG file)
And if you don’t understand any of that, I’ve asked him to make this option a simple checkmark in the Advanced Options in the future – which he is very likely to do. Another new option that’s coming is a “Safe Mode,” which will automatically disable all your plugins after you crash (unless, of course, you turn off the safe mode feature).

Use Firefox instead. Maxthon is not a browser, it’s just a “skin” to IE. Not hard to create.
