Video game experience is largely dictated by your computer’s ability to keep up with what the game is trying to show you. Even making sure you have plenty of RAM, a fast processor and a high performance video card isn’t necessarily enough to make a game feel real. The next step is to offload physics to another chip, or physics processing unit as they are often called. By handing off things like moveable objects in games and the physical elements involved in rendering an explosion to a PPU, you get realism a video card can’t currently handle. At the eFocus event on Tuesday before E3 opened, Chris talked with Aegia CEO, Manju Hegde, about their new PPU unit, what it means for game play and how the extra performance of a PPU will ultimately translate to more realistic gaming.
