I wanna get the beginning part of this vid turned into a ringtone "you need to sop watching those videos, you need to do the dishes, you need to take out the trash, you need to walk the dog..."

I built a FAB Excel spreadsheet once which organised the household bills - was perfect for students living together in a house. It allowed anyone to pay any bill, or buy anything for the general household, and just whack it in the file. The spreadsheet then worked out exactly who owed who how much, regardless of who had paid any particular bill.

Once I'd gotten over the intial resistance to technology barrier with my housemates, it made running the house SO much easier and friendlier. You could lend each other money though it, and everyone knew where they stood - anyone could pay money in at any time by putting a certain amount in - or they could take money out - the figures always tallied so it was so simple to manage, no matter what figures were involved.

Wish I'd backed it up though, as we were burgled (robbed, for our American cousins!) and my box went, taking with it my sharewarable development!

The chores we organised with a wall chart, and you could call people if any room wasn't tidy when they were rota-ed on! They also had to ensure that condiments, bread, butter and milk were always stocked, which drove the non-mayonnaise eaters mad!

I've been using this for about a month now and it's great. Helps to show just what's done to make a household run - EVERYTHING that needs to be done. It's especially handy when one of the users is a non-wage-earner. "Make all the money" gets you a lot of points! But it's not just that you see what chores need to be done, it also lets you see what doesn't need to be done right now. So instead of spending an entire day on a cleaning project, you just do a portion of it, schedule the rest for another day, and spend the afternoon doing something fun - guilt free. You know the rest will get done.
