Major Nelson on Xbox 360 Hour 1
Major Nelson dropped by the swanky studio where we record The Chris Pirillo Show to show off his prototype Xbox 360 hardware and talk about the most anticipated game console in ages. Holding the code-named Radon controller made my thumbs twitch for some HD gaming, but we were denied by the lack of a power cord. Maybe next time (there will be a next time, so stay tuned). As an official member of the Xbox Live product team at Microsoft and unofficial blogger of all things related to Xbox Live, Major Nelson fielded questions from Chris, followed by a rapid succession of calls from avid gamers. This first hour of the show is the interview with Chris followed by several calls from Xbox Live enthusiasts. Is Xbox 360 the gateway drug to a full-on PC experience in the living room? I’m inclined to bet it’s even bigger. Find out in this first hour, jam packed with Xbox live enthusiasm.

Windows Vista and Bugs
Chris had to reinstall Windows Vista three times on his laptop this week. Things are improving but there are still a lot of bugs to be submitted to Microsoft. Microsoft has started using the “Lady Bug” bugtraq system they have been developing. Chris feels Microsoft will be releasing more frequent incremental patches instead of Service Packs once Vista is released.
Canon PowerShot SD550
Chris loves his Canon Powershot S2 IS but he also needed a smaller pocket camera so he purchased the just released Canon PowerShot SD550.
Chris loves that the display can superimpose a grid for the Rule of Thirds and also can shoot a lot of pics without much shutter lag.
The Why Outlook 2003 Sucks Challenge
Chris ranted about The “Why Outlook 2003 Sucks” Challenge for a while. Read the post on his blog for the full details.
Tonight’s Calls
- Tedd called in to ask Chris to stop ranting about Outlook and to say that the computer that got flooded in Hurricane Katrina dried out and is now working fine without anything being done to it. Tedd shared some pictures of the hurricane damage.
Jeremy Cohn’s Segment
This week, Jeremy and his guest Jim Sanderson began by discussing the new iPod nano, and the obvious design flaws that are being reported all around the technology (and general) media spectrum. There are countless reports of iPod nano screens being far too fragile, and cracking with the slightest amount of pressure. Heck, some say that their iPod nano’s screen arrived cracked! Additionally, it’s evident that Apple didn’t change the plastic material that they make iPod’s out of! It is said that the slightest movement can scratch the nano. Jeremy was going to buy one, but he will stick with his beloved Shuffle for a little longer.

Their next story was regarding Microsoft doubling their amount of call centre employees in India. Their mission is to double call takers at their call centers in the Indian cities of Hyderabad and Bangalore by March 2006. Microsoft’s Hyderabad campus is the company’s largest campus outside of the United States and provides product development in addition to support services (call centers). The 28-acre campus, opened this past November. Go to this Reuters article.
Next up was some information about the new Palm smartphone - the Treo 700w. This was a significant story, because the operating system will not be the Palm OS, but rather the Windows Mobile OS - seriously! You’d never think the day would come that PDA rivals Palm and Microsoft are working together! For some more information on the Palm Treo 700w, go to this Reuters article, or this TopTechNews article.
A rather interesting story this week was about domain name disputes. Several fan sites aimed towards celebrities (such as Bill Cosby, Pamela Anderson, etc.) have been shut down by the United Nations, at the celeb’s request. Various Hollywood stars had complained that fan sites with names associated to them in any way infringed various trademark rights and was said be used in bad faith to apparently divert Internet traffic to a commercial search engine and eventually, sexually related websites.
Jim’s new technology segment referred to a robot race that is just about to get underway. The prize: $2,000,000 USD! Read more in this CNN article.
In the mood for a weird website for the week? We were, but no - we were NOT drunk when we wrote the script for the segment:
Remember that you can always contact both Jeremy Cohn and Jim Sanderson by sending them an email!
