This caller had several questions. He just converted to Mac from Windows… and is needing some video editing software for the Mac. He’s hoping to find something for a Mac that works even half as good as what Nero can do. The best thing I can think of for a Mac would be Toast, from Roxio. Roxio Toast 8 sets the standard for burning CDs, DVDs, and now Blu-ray discs on the Mac. Create superior sounding audio CDs with crossfades. Enjoy your TV shows anywhere with exclusive EyeTV burning and TiVoToGo transfers to DVD or iPod. Copy your audio CDs, movies and DVDs. It’s your digital life, Toast It!

Roxio also has a program called Crunch. Roxio Crunch is the essential video converter for your Apple TV, iPod, and iPhone. Take your video in to the living room or the palm of your hands fast and simple. Roxio Crunch is a one-stop shop for all of your video conversion needs. Batch export will make your life even simpler: converted video will be automatically added to iTunes for syncing. Don’t just convert it, Crunch it!

Lastly, Roxio is also the creator of Popcorn (coupon code: POP3SAVE10). Popcorn lets you enjoy your video anywhere you want, on the playback device of your choice. Easily make high quality copies of your DVDs and movies. Take television recordings from your Mac to the portable device of your choice for on-the-go viewing or fit 4 hours of video on a single layer-DVD.

Blind Idiot :) im not blind!

hes got a mac and hes doing video editing and hes not using fcp or imovie sad…

I’ve also been trying to locate a good CD burning application for the Mac, I’ll have to give it a shot. I also was not aware of the other applications but I’ll be sure to give them a shot as well.

Roxio’s Toast is great — I have it — but for basic disc burning operations, the Mac’s Finder does the job well. Just drag the files you want to copy onto a blank disc and choose “Burn” in the window.

Try VisualHub from Techspansion. It will convert nearly any format to nearly any other format, and it’s ~$24. It will also burn to DVD. It will do pretty much everything you listed above, with the exception of Blu-Ray burning.

Toast, MacTheRipper (free), Handbrake (free), iSquint (free), Visual Hub ($22), iLife ($79), and Final Cut Studio ($1299).

Most can skip the last two.

…and don’t forget the Perian.org plug-in and VLC.

i was thinking the same thing…

i use burn; a free mac software for mac for both audio and video conversion. i also use visualhub(not free) for video conversions too(more options). u can also use itunes; it does certain media conversions too.

Yes, Toast is awesome for duplicating CD’s and DVD’s and such but there many freeware and shareware products that work great for working with copy protected DVD’s such as Mactheripper and Handbrake.

You must check out macupdate.com and versiontracker.com,

ha. iMovie is hardly an editor, it is just for putting together clips and making them flow. Aswell as putting a few basic effects.

I am going to start making videos on you tube I heard that final cut is not that ez to use I am going to view this video over. I know there are programs that for the money are better.which one of the programs talk about is the better of the two thanks for posting

true but it is really easy to use as well as final cut pro. I think if your going to video edit you should use either avid or fcp. they are the best

What Do You Think?
