Love. Exciting and New.
A long time ago, I used the Internet as a dating service. Big deal, right? Well, remember – a long time ago, we didn't have the Web (and we certainly didn't have IRC). I relied on BBSes like ISCA and classic Usenet via 'tin' on the command line of my University shell account. Meeting girls through my favorite forums was fun. A decade later, if you don't have an IM account of some sort, you're not really counted as being online. I'm happily married now (and I should probably note that Gretchen and I met each other in real life before we ever communicated via the Internet). Where am I going with this? Well, you've heard of the stories where boy meets girl (or boy meets boy or girl meets girl) and they live happily ever after? Check it out… GeekGrrl met Milbertus in the Lockergnome chat room. Now they're engaged to be married. I can't tell you how happy this makes me; I don't know either of them very well, but I'm thrilled to have created an online resource where their friendship could blossom. Too cool. Too freakin' cool.
Amaze your friends the next time they beg you to come over and fix their computer problems. Using GoToAssist, you can instantly and easily log into their computer, allowing you to quickly diagnose those pesky errors, or even help them understand how their new program works.

Cool. A really weird thought popped into my head after reading this. A wedding at the next Gnomedex convention.

I was just wondering, since chris sorta mentioned it, how he feels on homosexuality? It's really none of my business, i just wanted to know.

I ran a BBS for several years. From what I've been able to keep track of, we've got three married couples, one of whom has a baby. Kinda cool. :)

I think that meeting someone online is a way to bypass all the stereotypes and really get to know the person. You don't have to play the typical dating games. It's a lot more honest. If we had met IRL, I don't believe we would've ever spoken to each other. We're both *hugely* shy but chatting online allowed us to see the (geeky) person inside, and get to know each other really well before we met.

Nothing suprises me anymore. Who would have guessed that two gay white-tiger trainers would meet; fall in love; and open a 21 million-dollar Vegas show?
I mean, what are the chances? Me? I can't get a date… well, at least one who knows what chmod 777 * means.

Part of what shoved me in to going to the gathering where I met “DateMan” was that I had read his blog first … now we just have to wait and see where time takes us! I can say that so far it's more successful than any of my online dating service adventures have been!

Christine; that is so dead on.
I am only interested in people with websites. It's not about the personal information they reveal. It's that you're able to observe their personality from a distance.
And then you can be rejected… laugh.

Rah ISCA! I see you're still kind of on it (The Locker Gnome, of course). It's certainly shrunk in the last few years.
