Lockergnome Forums
I haven't had Internet access (largely) for the past two days. I wanted to let Gnomies know that the forums are currently undergoing a transition. We're moving away from Invision permanently, using a very customized version of phpBB. The new hierarchy should be ready tomorrowish (I've been told). We'll use a new URL, but I'll also redirect the old URL indefinitely - and we may very well stick with the old forums URL - depending on how you vote. The forums will have RSS feeds, and we're finding a way to increase the ratio of questions to answers - and I think you'll be happily surprised with the results. As a reminder for those missing the forums, there are a million and one of 'em out there; if you want to make money with your answers, HelpShare 'em. More on the new forums soon!

phpBB is a great program. However, good luck retaining all your customizations when you have to install a future version of phpBB.

So far the Beta Forum seems to be more stable than the IPB board was. Once all of the minor bugs are ironed out, it will be great. I like the style of the board and it is good to have the Forum back on line.

The Lockergnome Forums were great for the first few days. As of this writing it is almost impossible to post anything there. Data base errors are constant. I got at least 50 of them yesterday. When the Forum was IPB there was a vote taken to start the new forum with a clean data base. The vote was to do so. The wishes of the membership were not followed and the data base was converted. Now we are seeing the same results but data base errors instead of SQL errors.
Could it be that when a corrupt data base is converted, it remains corrupt? Well I just hope that the problems are fixed in a timely manner. Good Luck.

There are so many data base errors on the new board that it is very difficult to post anything. I am getting about 50 a day. It seems to me that if a data base that was corrupt is converted to the new board, it also will be corrupt. Instead of the SQL errors, we now are getting data base errors. Same problem different board.
There was a poll taken and the results were that the new board should be started with a clean data base, this was not done.
I just hope that it gets fixed ASAP as more and more members will go elsewhere.

So I was off work and surfing and found this place and thought I would join up. I don’t have much more to say right now except I need to start reading some of the older posts to get up to speed before I can start posting.

Used to be on the old forums when Gary66 (was sip)….was on and a list of other members. Just strolling around tonight and happened on here. A suggestion: how about after you figure out your data base’s to once again start a message board similar like the one that used to be in place yrs or months ago it’s been so long since I’ve visited Lockergnome that I forgot just how long the old forum was still up or done with. In any event, sure is a surprise to find some of the old gang is still on. Go with IPB, seems they did a better job from some of the comments here, hey sip :) ………

Hi Folks!
Just wanted to share my new experience.
If your system denies to run due to an error related to lost HAL.DLL, invalid Boot.ini or any other important system boot files you can fix this by using the XP installation CD. Just boot from your XP Setup CD and enter the Recovery Console. Then launch “attrib -H -R -S” on the C:\Boot.ini file and delete it. Launch “Bootcfg /Rebuild” and then Fixboot
Regards,
Carl

I began this discussion to evaluate public available web proxies:
Which are really anonymous?
Which can unblock facebook, myspace etc, in other words: are fresh ?
Which can you recommend?
Thanks for your help,
Dschibut
P.S.: In my country, the freedom of speech is somehow constrained, please give me a hint, if you have doubts about your recommendation.

A housewife has beaten over 50 entries with her painful investment experience to win the top prize in this year’s “My Investment Story” competition.
Ms Annie Lok recounted how she sold a snack shop she and her husband had been running for their entire life for over $ 300,000 but lost it all after she was persuaded by her cousin to invest the money in shares which eventually became penny stocks when the market turned last year.
The money was intended to pay for the tuition fees of her son who was entering a well-known overseas university.
Ms Lok, together with nine other winners, will share their investment stories at an award presentation ceremony tonight to be hosted by the Chairman of the SFC, Mr Eddy Fong (Note1).
“The competition is a continued effort by the SFC to promote investor education. Through experience sharing, we hope the competition will help promulgate a healthy investment attitude and raise the public awareness of the associated risks before making investment decisions,” Mr Fong said.
“The winning stories provide some very useful lessons as to how gaining product knowledge, good risk management and proper attitudes toward investing can help make sound investment decisions,” he added.
The competition is organized jointly by the SFC and its media partners - Commercial Radio One and Sing Tao Daily. The winners were selected by a panel of judges.
Winners will share their investment experiences on Commercial Radio One programme “CrossTrade” every Tuesday and Thursday starting from 26 August. Winning entries will also be published in the Investment Weekly Magazine of Sing Tao Daily from the week of 25 August and on the SFC’s InvestEd website.
What do you think?

Hi Everyone,
I have a carpet cleaning business in Houston,TX that was doing pretty good until the economy went bad, and with it my clientele. I have a website for the business but I dont
know what I have to do the get it to show up in a search. Right now it’s somewhere in the yahoo/google netherworld (LOL).
Is there someone on here that can give me some insight or know of anyone that coud give me insight on how I can get my local website on the front
page of a Yahoo or Google search to increase my business without it costing me 5 or 10k $$$? If so please share with me.
I thank you and my hungry over-eating children thank you.
thanks,
