This looks like an awesome linux box. I am not sure if that are trying to compete with the mac mini but from the video it seems to be responsive, I am very interested in learning more about this especially if it can support more devices. I hope to read and see more of this box. For the $99, and 14.95 a month is not that bad for a hassle free system.

I don’t really want to pay a monthly fee to use a PC. While the zonbu may be cheaper, smaller, more energy efficient it also is a locked enviroment. The thing can’t have new apps installed because they removed the right. maybe if I could install the apps I want I would consider paying a monthly fee till then nope not happening

Nice idea. On the right track. Not such a great deal. It doesn’t really start at $99. It starts at $299. You get a $200 discount IF you purchase two years of service at $14.95 per month. That brings your total price to $457.80 for your $99 computer. You can get an bare bones PC for that much that has more memory, a hard drive, a cd-rom, and is upgradeable.

If you opt for the one year support option, you get a $100 discount, for a total price of $378.40. If you opt not to have support, you pay the base price of $299. The $99 computer is false advertising in my opinion.

But, like I said, it is a nice idea, and heading on the right track. I just think the pricing needs to be more upfront, so that someone does not buy it thinking he is only going to pay $99, but in reality be committing to paying a whole lot more.

i think that you should shove the pc because u can buy umpcs for alot cheaper. but it is a good idea
i would prefer that you would connect a umpc to other things an install linux on it because linux is totaly free

however that is just my preference

I was really excited about the prospect of getting Zonbu, until I really understood the situation. First off, you are limited to their software, and must store your information online. This would not serve the needs I had for a system, so I wrote them, and explained my issues with it. Pleasantly I received a reply with this information in it:
* We will have a community/developer edition of the hardware available for purchase, this allows you to install whatever Linux distribution (and software) you desire (or even Windows). If you install your own distribution, then you do not have to use the Zonbu Online Storage features — you can install a notebook hard drive inside the Zonbox.
This is exciting! Please check out the deal over at Zonbu, and write the company, letting them know you are REALLY looking forward to the community/developer edition of their hardware. If enough people do so, they may speed up the process a little faster! In the meantime, I have subscribed to their newsletter, awaiting these updates.

ewe… Can the CF memory be upgraded using CF from other companies? Or must it come from Zonbu?

Does Zonbu:
1. Have ability to have apps updated like Skype video when it is available?
2. What are the downsides, from your perspective?
3. Will the service allow one to use Google apps, gmail, etc?
4. What browser is default? Firefox?
