Its worth is not the simple text message, but it means that running code on the platform is possible. Linux on the iphone in its present state is not beneficial to anyone. However just like with the hello world message this shows that you can run another OS on an iphone. Android could very well be coming to the iphone. As for it not being broke, I disagree. I have the apple iphone OS on my iphone and while being very good, it is far from stable. Constant crashes, appstore banning useful apps, limitations in the SDK etc. Android is a great alternative if it ported to the iphone and I would at least check it out. Because android is open source it will likely overtake the iphone OS in overall functionality soon.

It’s sort of like the hello world script running on a console. But i'm with TreyRust; there are far less expensive ways to have a Linux based smart-phone, that are not significantly less of a system than putting it on an iPhone. There isn't much point in paying for an iPhone then making it not an iPhone.

An amusing project, sure. I'm sure it's a similar goal that causes people to want Linux on an iPhone. I know many people posting above are Apple fans, That's cool. However, why bash and make fun of the ability to put linux on an iPhone? After all, Isn't the Apple mentality to "think different?"

Why do people jail brake iPhones? Because they want more functionality. However if the creator of this does a little more work on this i believe Apple should be taking powerful steps to see that it doesn't happen. Although i would prefer that Apple doesn't take that course of action.I suppose we'll see what happens hey!

At the present time i don’t think this Linux on the Iphone is going to work very well due to security reasons. First off I could do really advanced things like copy and paste, download a file to storage, copy any file I want for storage on the device, the browser might be stable for more than 5 minutes at a time, it would lock up less, flash would work, and so on. Per the usual - Apple hardware is at the very top of the consumer level electronics - innovative and very high quality - well thought out - however none of those guys can write good software...utter crap.

I would love linux on my iphone but thats not saying much since if I could have windows 3.1 on my iPhone I would take it over the iPhone OS.
