Can I point out that low energy compact fluorescent bulbs contain mercury. If you break one of them, be careful.

I have already replaced most of my lightbulbs with the twisty fluorescent ones. The only problem is they contain mercury and if they brake, you are suppose to call in a hazmat team to clean it up. If one brakes in my home, I will ignore the possible future medical problems and dispose of it in a landfill.

Technology covers most aspects of the modern world. Light bulbs are at least as valid as vapid YouTube videos…

Query: Why do bulbs blow out prematurely, no abuse/movement or excessive on/off. In my house they just plain don’t last, regardless of brand, type, style or cost.

And despite the hype and push, I have never had one of those mercury laden compact fluorescents last more than 60 days. I could buy a case of regular bulbs and not pollute the landfill for the same money.

One caution with replacing the bulb with a compact flourescent. There are studies that are linking the increases of headaches and migraines with the use of fluorescent lighting of all kinds. It is recommended to use fluorescent filters or bulbs that are specifically designed to more closely simulate natural light.

And don’t just throw that fluorescent bulb away when it finally stops working. They have mercury in them and need to be recycled.

lighting is key to just about everything..
i can not study in my bedroom because the lighting sucks.. and i fall asleep all the time when i try to study in there.. I can study in my computer room though because the lighting is that much better.

They also have those super fancy LED light bulbs. They are expensive (sometimes in the hundreds) but they use like 1 watt. Be cool to see a graph of how long it would take to save money with them.

I just bought some full spectrum light bulbs from Amazon (4 for approx. $20, including shipping). They are supposed to be the most sunlight-like light out there. IIRC they are also energy efficient/eco-friendly. These are the type of lights people suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder can use to treat their depression. I figure it couldn’t hurt much to try them. Well, they might give you a sunburn, because they do emit UV rays.

With fluorescent lights, I like to take off my shoes, stand in a small pan of freshly poured mountain-spring water, and firmly grasp both ends the bulb as I remove it from the socket.

I have naturally curly hair and I find this helps to straighten it without having to pay for an expensive chemical process.
