i have been using counter spy for years and overall i like the program. the one problem with counterspy / viper programs is on manual scans you cannot exclude drives, so you either allow it to auto-scan all drives if scheduled or you do a manual-scan once a week. counterspy is great because it will catch items that zonealarm internet security will miss, however the reverse also holds true. the difference between zonealarm and counterspy / viper is that zonealarm has for years allowed you to pick and choose which drives get scanned and which drives do not get scanned. i just did an online chat with sunbelt and asked their tech-support if they had corrected this in viper and was inform no they had not, and that i might want to suggest it to their development department. for now i will stick with zonealarm internet security for my firewall, antivirus, and main spyware program and use counterspy antispyware as a secondary checker.

AVG Free and Avast also have low memory footprints and a lower dollar footprint - $0. In any case not doing stupid things is your first line of defense. 99% of viruses and malware are acquired voluntarily :) Protip: quit clicking porn ads.
