I know MacOSX leopard has cool features like time machine, but you didn't say anything about vista features. your contex was not macOSXL vs. WinV. It was MacOSXL features.
I don't say win is better or mac is better. but I say vista has cool features too. Like Windows Media Center or Windows Speech Recognition that lets you talk or dictate to your PC. Mac is awesome, but it doesn't mean win is awful. Both of them are OK, but mac is simple to use. Windows is faster at all. for 3d or animation makers or programmers, windows is better. For gamers windows is the only choice. see? afterall, I think you must compare both sides.
(I don't say mac is weaker than win. I love MacBooks so much!!!!)

Idiots shouldn't review stuff. I'm tired of people running their vags off about how much apple is greater. Apple doesn't make any hardware besides cases. The nasty overheating thermal paste they put on decent chips is a shame for any computer owner. Vista DRM protection has not affected me at all, maybe it's cuz I listen to good music. Vista Ultimate 64 bit has been running blazing fast on an AMD x2 4200 with 2GB of memory. Apple charges up to three times more on tehir hardware, and to sell a system which has less features and costs shit. And I laugh my ass off at Apple servers. Nuff said

Ridiculous. Are people really still fighting over which OS is better? Wow, get over it. If you like Windows more, use that. If you like Macs more, then use that. No OS is better than another. The reason I use Windows and will continue to use it is because it is compatible with just about everything. I also play games which Windows is better for. Macs are nice and cool, but pricey. And no, Vista doesn't suck, its much better than XP and in the same range of Leopard. Its what you DO with the computer that makes it better for you.

Windows is pathetic. I could not download a file that is 2GB in size even though my FS is NTFS. It only downloads the first 700 bytes. I tried on two different computers just in case. Same result. Windows is pathetic.

Everyone should switch to Mac. because, the 2GB file is downloading fine...

leopard (10.5) is not a service pack it is a full fledged OS. leopard is to tiger, as vista is to XP or 2000. The Windows service packs are like the free apple version upgrade (as in 10.51 to 10.52)and apple's security upgrade. There are actually more for the mac then the PC

OH never put a point of view of an OS if you haven't used them both extensively over lots time

I know this article is getting close to 2 yrs old by now, but hey that's beauty of the internet… Chris mentioned the new stuff in Leopard, and yeah some of it is pretty cool, but are they really necessary?

- Time Machine is decent and really requires an external drive to work properly. Unfortunately it lulls people in to a false sense of security, because it the drive fails there goes your backups. I still prefer to backup to dual layer DVDs.

- iChat - more of toy than anything useful, stuff like that has been around for Windows for a while too.

- Spaces is cool, but again can you get by without it? I've tried it and its fun to play with, but generally I prefer two monitors.

- Core animation is definitely not for the common everyday user.

- Spotlight - most home users have no need for it.
- Dashboard - have no need for it yet…
- Boot camp - I have a PC at work, but no need for one at home.

- Other optimizations and tweaks - that’s a given, since… well… it's an OS upgrade.

Oh and my Mom would never use most of theses anyway.

You mentioned that Leopard is far more compelling than Vista. I have never felt "compelled" to use the Mac, I don't find it "irresistible" either. It's just what I grew up with and feel comfortable with. I don't feel "compelled" to use Vista either. I use it at work to do video editing, and audio production. From what I hear Vista was re-built from the ground up and it is based on the 2008 server kernel. It's better than XP in every way except for driver support. I use the 64 bit version at work; I enjoy the new look and feel (if that's possible).

Oh and I read the article by Owen Thomas. The thing I don't understand is - who really cares about the Vista hype? That article was written before the OS was released. Whether its Mac upgrades or Windows upgrades; we're eventually forced to do it. So what if Mr Jobs (who I don't particularly care for) snickers about "five" releases in the time it took Vista to be released. I recently went to download a new driver for an audio interface for Vista, and I noticed the drivers for the Mac there too - there were 22!! 9.x, 10.2.8, 10.3.6, 10.3.7, 10.3.8, 10.3.9, 10.4.0. 10.4.1 - all the way up to 10.5.2. There were also Intel and PPC versions as well. And how many for XP? Two! And how many for Vista? Two! One for 32 bit and one for 64 bit. Man I bet their developers are pulling their hair out trying to keep up Apple!

Why do Mac users hate so much? I enjoy both Mac and Windows equally well. Chris needs to take a chill pill.

Vista is great as long as you use it in a really good machine. the things I can do in my vista machine are incredible, I can be playing a blu-ray and run 5 other movies at the same time, iTunes, countless websites. folding at home and running battlefield 2142 at the same time and I can ALT-TAB between all of them easily. True, it's not going to be very fast if I am running all those apps but it does them pretty well.. it even flip3d's between them without losing an inch of video. it doesnt lag. in my opinion vista is better than any MAC OS out there. the catch? if you happen to run vista in a machine less than capable, it's going to be one of the most frustrating experiences you'll have at computing.

The machine is constantly processing, uses a crapload of ram, it's going to be slower than your exp machine, the security promts would eventualy drive you insane because they would add to your overall crappy performance.

But seriously, stop believing the bad reviews out there, most of that people run vista on their "not really vista ready" computers.

BTW. Nothing against Macs, they are pretty and stylish and I am sure very easy to use but several things about windows (like games) and ALT-TAB (Expose sucks compared to the speed of ALT-TAB) make me want to stay. simple things like pressing the windows key in vista and instantly start typing a website and pressing enter.

for experienced users, Windows is much, much faster.

Ok...

I use Vista, and yes it has a couple bugs, but hey what OS doesn't.

You guys can debate about which is "better" all you want but what it comes down to is preference. If your into gaming and doing high end stuff your going to want windows. Versus if your into multimedia, you'll want a mac.

Now for those of you mac users that are bragging about "Security", well don't get too excited. Now in the future IF mac actually does start to get competitive in the marketing places, we're going to hear of allot more mac users complaining about viruses and hackers and who knows what else.
Disagree?

OK, lets look at that.
Your one of those freaks that likes to program viruses or who knows what else, your going to spend hours upon hours of time building a virus. Who would you want to attack?
You would want to make as much damage as you can! Now when you've got around 1 in 3 or 1 in 4 macs out there for every pc, I think its a safe assumption to say that they're going to look for even the tiniest security flaw in the more popular OS.

And hey if you don't believe me just sit on that one for a while, give it till macs become more popular. Then decide.

And oh if you think I'm saying PCs are perfect, thats definitely not what I'm saying. They aren't. But imagine how much more pressure is on a MS programming team to keep their security up to date, then apple.

I totally agree with people out there who think that Vista is not worth money.

I recentyl bought new laptop and installed Adobe CS3 and for some reason after that my Media Player stopped working. I went to Microsoft site for support and there was unbelivable charge for the support. £45 + 17.5% VAT. I can't believe that someone would ever pay this much money for support after paying £150+ for Vista. All I want to say is that if anyone's thinking to buy Microsoft based computer, don't. GO FOR APPLE.

Well, I have been working with computers since time began and only recently was converted to mac when I became the technician at a Apple Service Provider. The hardware platform is by far the most stable that I have seen, due to the strong presence of decent drivers to run it and also the operating system involved. I still use windows myself, but osx has grown on me to the point wher I am now operating server platform with it... my only complaint

leopard.... is vista... I have had more complaints and more problems with this operating system. I do not recommend i, I think they rushed it, and sadly I have no other option but to say when people call me that there "is no current fix for this known problem, apple is working on it"... you try and tell that to a overzealous apple consumer who doesnt realize that leopard was released to early...

I have used windows since about 1998. Before that I didn't have a computer since I wasn't familiar with them. I am in grade 8 now, Our school only uses Apple Mac. We recently got 15 Mac OS X Leopard's. To tell you the truth I can't decide. Windows is easy for me now because I am familiar with them. I have Windows XP. I don't plan to upgrade to Windows Vista for at least another 6 Months because I don't trust it - Yet.

The Mac is simple & easy to use, But Windows XP is better for gaming. When this computer stuffs itself, I will definetly get a iMac, Reason being Mac's have better security and are less cluttered. Mac's come with everything you need, Itunes, I Life and all that stuff. But Really it does come down to who you are more familiar with and who you trust.

I don’t plan to upgrade to Windows Vista for at least another 6 Months because I don’t trust it – Yet.

The Mac is simple & easy to use, But Windows XP is better for gaming. When this computer stuffs itself, I will definetly get a iMac, Reason being Mac’s have better security and are less cluttered. Mac’s come with everything you need, Itunes, I Life and all that stuff. But Really it does come down to who you are more familiar with and who you trust.

Time Machine? Windows had that in 2003... iChat? uhm... every IM program ever...
Mail stuff... that's been in Outlook for years...

On Windows I've spent (total) about 600 dollars. Since 3.0. You've spent over 750 on mac since 2001... so, you've spent more than I have in 20 years in 6... for features that I've had for years... Mac OS X doesn't do nearly everything I need to natively. Most of what I use it Windows only, so I'd have to get bootcamp or run parallels. That's ridiculous. I want my programs to run on my computer's native OS, not an emulator, or another OS running in mine, thanks. My Vista experience has been supreme. All my friends are having severe problems with Leopard (all my friends are mac or Linux users, I'm the ugly duckling, yet they all compliment how great my pc is when they actually USE it.) People use my pc and are like JEEZ WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN HERE THIS IS REALLY FAST! and I simply tell them it's an aging pentium 4 with a gig of RAM and a GeForce 7900. And Vista Home Premium. So, while my pc boots in 30 seconds, you can have your 3 minute mac. I've got 2 minutes to do what I want while you're waiting on your slow and "pretty" system, and I'll keep smiling, and so will you, and all is well.

It's all about preference, what works for one may not work for another. Both OS's work great. But I prefer OS X over Windows.

"It's amazing how illiterate some people are."

In 2006 I bought my first Intel based Imac 20", because who wants all that clutter of wires? It just needs 1 (power) if you use the wireless mouse and keyboard. What were pc makers around the world thinking?

I admit, I bought it because it could run Windows XP using bootcamp.
Fondeling around the Apple OS X which was all new to me wasn't an option. It would take too much time for me to get used to it.

But I like trying out software installs, and everybody knows installing/uninstalling in a windows environment is actually asking for trouble.

After my 5th reinstall in a year I've had it with Microsoft.

(Even fresh XP installs do sometimes give errors, I even kept sequences of driver/softw installs to make sure everything would install at its best, but I never got a 100% error free environment - just try shutting down windows when you have like 5 programs running, lol)

So I pushed myself to the Apple OS X environment, and forced myself to work in it, and get to know every bit of it.
Wow, I mean really WOW (I think Bill thought of that word when he was working in the new OS X)

I mean this is an incredible environment to work with. Personal as professional. I fell in love with OS X. Of course I would never think of buying a non-intel Apple machine. But man (or woman) this is the future in computing.

Today more then a year later, my friends, collegues, family have switched to Apple and OS X Tiger.

Why? Because it's the best around for everyday use.
Even my 85 year old grandfather who never used a pc before uses a Macbook duo core with Apple's OS X. And he likes it... :)

Microsoft at this time has 3 products I still use: WIndows 2003 Server and Office 2007 which I run in an XP environment on my Macs using Parallels. In 1 click I start xp in the background, i use it for office, that's it. Even RDC I do in OS X using CORD (way faster)

So buying a new pc? BUY A MAC....I bet Steve Jobs could easily implement a 100% money back guarantee and wouldn't even jeapordize Apples financial future.

About Vista? lol well, 2 words...'The End'
(tested Vista Ultimate)

O yeah, right Macs don't need antivirus programs. They suggest to get one not to pass on viri to windows users. Sure, like we care :)
