They are the typical magnet letters that everybody has, but they come with a player box.  Put the letter on the player, and it sings a song about itself -- &quot;A!  A says &quot;ayy&quot;, and A says &quot;ack&quot;.  Every letter makes a sound, A says &quot;ayy!&quot;  (It doesn&#039;t really say &quot;ack&quot; but I couldnt&#039; decide how to spell the short A vowel sound).
My 2.5 yr old has been using it for trial and error when looking for a letter.  She turns it off, inserts a letter, turns it on just long enough to hear the name of the letter, then turns it off again to avoid the song.  Then she puts in another letter.

Turns out it would only work the tapes designed for that toy. I was a kid at this time, so I of course did not want to accept this.
