Shown on GoToMeeting
Desktop sharing was limited to 200 people, so if you didn’t get signed in early you missed the live show. We did another GoToMeeting live broadcast. Chris demonstrated the following: (All links are at the bottom in, “Sites mentioned on Tonight’s Show”)
- WindowBlinds (Can someone add some more info on this please.)
- Chris tried to show you Corel’s Paint Shop Pro-X but the trial expired even though Chris downloaded and installed it today.
- We took a look at the new WinAmp 5.1 which includes SHOUTcast Wire, Podcasting support, and AOL Radio with XM Radio.
- Microsoft OneCareLive Beta which scans for viruses, backups and restore files. If you would like a Windows One Care Beta invite, email chris@lockergnome.com
- Thanks to GoToMeeting we were able to logon to Jake’s desktop and show you Paint Shop Pro-X. The new version has improved a lot of the Effects and added several new features such as a Warp Brush and Makeover tool. The Makeover tool allows you to whiten teeth, add a suntan, and other types of retouches.
- Ascii art with Figlet.
- Chris showed off the IE 7 Beta. He HATES the UI and fonts.
- Chris LOVES the Maxthon IE plugin and all its features. Several people in the chat room pointed out that since Maxthon uses the IE engine and security model you’re much more open to security exploits and spyware infection than you are with other browsers that don’t employ Active-X such as Opera and Firefox. Chris responds that Microsft is able to more rapidly respond to vulnerabilites.
- Chris did demo Firefox but he doesn’t feel that the UI is developed enough and that many of extentions should be included with the browser so that the browser is more feature rich and intutive to avergage users.
- PSPad is a web page editor and text editor that has an intergraded FTP Client.
- Next was iTunes version 5. Chris finds that it runs slow and pointed out that Apple has changed a few colors but haven’t improved much of anything else.
- Chris showed off the Screensaver that comes with MSN. Its not nearly as nice as OS-X’s rss feed screen saver but it does have some nice features. He also talked about the new MSN Toolbar which, in his opinion, only adds cluter and nothing useful.
Tonight’s Calls
- FoD called in to ask which WindowBlinds themes Chris is using. WindowBlinds comes with all the themes he is using.
- LordKaT asked for a free audio editor besides Auducity. Chris recommended GoldWave.
- Andru called in to let us know that he is giving away a $2000 XBox 360 Bundle. Enter to win it at GearLive.com
Jeremy Cohn’s Segment
This week, Jeremy’s first group of stories was about victims of Hurricane Katrina, and what people can do if they are missing family members, kids, or pets because of the hurricane. If you are missing a family member, Jim Sanderson mentioned a variety of sites that include: safekatrina.com and missingkatrina.com, katrinafinder.us.
Jeremy mentioned a few employees who are stuck on the upper floors of an office building in New Orleans. They work for an internet company, and had some supplies to be prepared for Katrina. He is providing near constant updates from his office in New Orleans, including a lot of multimedia of the city (pictures/video that he took – all from his office window). You can read more, as well as get the link to the blog in this CNet article.
Jeremy and Jim spoke about Apple’s new iTunes compatible cell phone, as well as the brand new iPod nano. Jeremy referred to article at Lockergnome about the new nano.
Now of course, this week’s segment just wouldn’t be anywhere near perfect without Jim’s weird website of the week. We’ve been sticking with websites that in some way or another relate to food, and we kept with that trend this week! Want to have a virtual food fight, pop on over to virtualfoodfight.com.
You can contact Jeremy during the week by emailing him at jeremy.cohn@lockergnome.com, or contact Jim by visiting his company’s website: dominionbusiness.com.

For the most part, Chris usually relies on a Canon GL2 DV camera connected via FireWire for video and a Samson C01U USB Studio Condenser mic for audio… Related Content:How to Stream Your Desktop in VideoLive Streaming Audio at BloggerCon and GnomedexJoin us in GoToMeeting TonightBroadcasting Live from CESCooking VideosWatch ThisLive Internet Video StreamLive BroadcastPlaying 18 Xbox Games in 3 HoursLawley and Scoble – Live on the Show Tonight
