It's Your Business
I've been reading recent comments in the blogosphere about my first BBS presentation – most of which were quite forgiving, a few of which were not quite aware of my circumstance. I was asked to do this particular session in someone else's stead a few days before the summit launched, and was more than happy to do so. It was a great event with great attendees and great conference coordinators, so I'm taking any possible presentation criticism lightly. That said…
- Never follow Marc Canter. Ever.
- Sharing the stage with another energetic geek is difficult to do.
- It was suggested that I offer a PDF / handout instead of an on-screen presentation, so that the audience might not have to scramble to write things down and actually pay attention to what I was saying.
- I loathe PowerPoint.
- As I was one of the first presenters, I could not accurately gauge the level of understanding and proficiency of the audience. I possibly (incorrectly) assumed that most folks would have a rudimentary understanding of the blogosphere and RSS.
- The description for my session included “From revenue-generating sales sites…” – which I aimed to demonstrate. Not everybody can be a Lockergnome, I know.
- I love audience participation and interaction, but some non-blogging audience members don't understand that it's just the way it goes with “us.”
- Not everybody knows me, what I've done, or what I do.
- I know nothing about corporations and (god-willing) never will.
- I've had a lot of requests for Google AdSense guidance, so I must've done something right up there on stage.
- I'm working on Gnomedex 5… in Seattle… early June.
