It's Your Business

I've been reading recent comments in the blogosphere about my first BBS presentation – most of which were quite forgiving, a few of which were not quite aware of my circumstance. I was asked to do this particular session in someone else's stead a few days before the summit launched, and was more than happy to do so. It was a great event with great attendees and great conference coordinators, so I'm taking any possible presentation criticism lightly. That said…

  1. Never follow Marc Canter. Ever.
  2. Sharing the stage with another energetic geek is difficult to do.
  3. It was suggested that I offer a PDF / handout instead of an on-screen presentation, so that the audience might not have to scramble to write things down and actually pay attention to what I was saying.
  4. I loathe PowerPoint.
  5. As I was one of the first presenters, I could not accurately gauge the level of understanding and proficiency of the audience. I possibly (incorrectly) assumed that most folks would have a rudimentary understanding of the blogosphere and RSS.
  6. The description for my session included “From revenue-generating sales sites…” – which I aimed to demonstrate. Not everybody can be a Lockergnome, I know.
  7. I love audience participation and interaction, but some non-blogging audience members don't understand that it's just the way it goes with “us.”
  8. Not everybody knows me, what I've done, or what I do.
  9. I know nothing about corporations and (god-willing) never will.
  10. I've had a lot of requests for Google AdSense guidance, so I must've done something right up there on stage.
  11. I'm working on Gnomedex 5… in Seattle… early June.
